-
- 1. Introduction
-
- This diskette contains drivers and programs for Windows 3.1 users who
- have a Sound Blaster Pro.
-
- 2. Diskette Contents
-
- SBPSND.DRV -- Wave and MIDI Port driver for Windows 3.1.
- SBPFM.DRV -- FM MIDI driver for Windows 3.1.
- SBPAUX.DRV -- Auxiliary driver for Windows 3.1.
- OEMSETUP.INF -- Information file required by DRIVERS applet (loaded by
- Control Panel) to install the above three drives.
- MIDIMAP.CFG -- MIDI mapper configuration file for Sound Blaster.
- SBPMIXER.CPL -- Sound Blaster Pro Mixer Control applet.
- SBPMIXER.EXE -- Stand-alone Sound Blaster Pro Mixer Control.
-
- 3. Using The Drivers
-
- To install the three drivers:
-
- 1. Execute Control Panel.
- 2. Execute DRIVERS applet.
- 3. Click the "Add..." button.
- 4. When the "Add" dialog box appears, select the "Unlisted or Updated
- Driver".
- 5. When you're prompted to insert the disk with the unlisted or updated
- driver, put this diskette in the specified drive and click the "OK"
- button.
- 6. A dialog box will pop up to show three Sound Blaster drivers. You have
- to install each of them separately by highlighting one and click the
- "OK" button everytime.
-
- Note: Each time when you are prompted to restart Windows, you may choose
- not to do so until the third (last) Sound Blaster driver is
- installed.
-
- 4. Using MIDIMAP.CFG
-
- This configuration file should be copied to the SYSTEM sub-directory of the
- Windows directory to REPLACE the one installed by Microsoft. It contains
- standard MIDI patchmaps for Sound Blaster.
-
- 5. Using SBPMIXER.CPL
-
- This Sound Blaster Mixer can only be loaded using the Control Panel. To use
- it, you should put it in the SYSTEM sub-directory of the Windows directory.
- Then, when you activate the Control Panel, it will be loaded together with
- the other Microsoft's applets.
-
- 6. Using SBPMIXER.EXE
-
- This is what we call the Stand-alone Mixer because it can be accessed like
- a normal Windows application without first activating the Control Panel.
- Hence, to execute this application, you can use the "Run..." command from
- the "File" menu; or better still, create and icon for the program using the
- "New..." command from the "File" menu. Then, every time when you want to
- execute the application, you just need to double-click the icon.
-
- 7. Change In MIDI Mapper Concept
-
- In Windows 3.0 with Multimedia extension, the MIDI mapper is an applet
- (application with extension CPL and can only be executed via Control Panel).
- However, for Windows 3.1, the MIDI mapper is a built-in driver that will
- only appear in the Control Panel if you have specify a MIDI driver in the
- "drivers" section of the SYSTEM.INI.
-
- Therefore, initially when Windows 3.1 is installed and the Sound Blaster
- drivers are not installed yet, you will not be able to see the MIDI mapper
- in the Control Panel. It will automatically appear once you have installed
- the Sound Blaster drivers and RESTARTED Windows.
-
- 8. Changes In SYSTEM.INI
-
- The Sound Blaster section name for Windows 3.1 is "sndblst.drv" instead of
- "SoundBlaster" for Multimedia Windows. And the keyword for DMA setting is
- "dmachannel" instead of "DMA".
-
- 9. Changes In Sound Blaster Drivers
-
- Two important changes have been made to SBPSND.DRV, SBPFM.DRV and
- SBPAUX.DRV.
-
- A. Under the request of Microsoft, we have changed the Drum Channel to be
- fixed at Channel 10 instead of 16.
- B. The three drivers now can be used in both Windows 3.0 with Multimedia
- extension and Windows 3.1. It will check the Windows version and use
- the correct Sound Blaster section name to access the settings in the
- SYSTEM.INI.
-
- 10. Notes on SBPMIXER
-
- Both mixer can be used in Windows 3.0 with Multimedia extension as well as
- Windows 3.1.
