- INTRODUCTION
-
- Winvelope is a utility program that simplifies the
- printing of envelopes from the Windows operating
- environment. Winvelope accomplishes this task in
- just a few quick keystrokes and adds a host of
- convenient features in the process. Now instead of
- having to re-type the address, the user can copy it
- from a Windows document via the Clipboard and paste
- it directly to an envelope.
-
- Winvelope can be loaded and minimized to an icon when
- starting Windows so that it is always just a "mouse
- click" away. A handy address book for Windows
- Cardfile is also included for storing and retrieving
- frequently used addresses.
-
-
-
- FEATURES:
-
- Capture an address from any Windows document and copy
- it to an envelope for printing.
-
- Automatically prints in landscape orientation for
- those printers that require it.
-
- Store and retrieve frequently used addresses for
- printing from unlimited number of address books setup
- for Windows Cardfile.
-
- Manually input an address at print time.
-
- Optionally print envelopes with primary or alternate
- return address.
-
- Choice of printing to any envelope size.
-
- Adjustable print positions.
-
- Support for Windows installed printer fonts and
- attributes.
-
-
-
- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
-
- Winvelope requires the following minimum hardware and
- software configuration:
-
- Computer with a 286 or greater CPU.
-
- Windows 3.X software installed in either "standard" or
- "386" mode.
-
- Windows CARDFILE.EXE installed in the Windows
- subdirectory.
-
- Printer supported by Windows and capable of feeding
- envelopes.
-
-
-
- INSTALLATION:
-
- Create a subdirectory on your harddisk and copy the
- files from the Winvelope diskette to the new
- directory.
-
- C>md \Winvelop
-
- C>cd \Winvelop
-
- C> copy A:*.*
-
- One of the files on the Winvelope diskette is named
- VBRUN100.DLL. This is the Microsoft runtime file for
- Visual Basic applications. VBRUN100.DLL must be
- located in the DOS search path. This can be done by
- adding the WINVELOP directory to the path statement of
- your AUTOEXEC.BAT file or a better solution is to copy
- this file to your Windows directory, which is already
- included in the path statement. We suggest the
- latter option in order to minimize the size of your
- path statement and more importantly, with
- VBRUN100.DLL located in the Windows directory, your
- system will be setup for other Windows applications
- that may require this file in the future.
-
- Install Winvelope in Windows Program Manager or
- substitute using the following command line:
-
- [d:][path] WNVEL363.EXE
-
- where [d:][path] is the drive and path containing the
- Winvelope files.
-
- You may want to load Winvelope as an icon when you
- start Windows so that it is always available. To do
- this, modify the "load=" statement in the [Windows]
- section of the WIN.INI file to include WNVEL363.EXE.
-
- [Windows]
- load=[d:][path]WNVEL363.EXE
-
- Refer to your Windows Manual for more detailed
- information on this procedure.
-
-
-
- PRINT ORIENTATION:
-
- Prior to trying to print from Winvelope, activate the
- SETUP pull-down menu and click on Printing Defaults.
- From this screen, select whether your printer prints
- envelopes in the portrait or landscape orientation.
- After this selection is made and saved, Winvelope will
- for most printers and printer drivers automatically
- print the envelope in the correct orientation without
- having to access Printer Setup. If landscape
- orientation is chosen, Winvelope will return the
- printer to portrait mode after the envelope is printed.
- Some printer drivers such as Canon and Atech do not
- currently support the auto-landscape feature. If you
- find that your printer driver ignores the landscape
- setting you will need to use the 'Printer Setup'
- button to change print orientation.
-
-
-
- PAPER BIN SELECTION:
-
- This option, found in the 'Printing Defaults' setup
- routine, is primarily for laser printers. This
- setting will control which paper source will be
- accessed when the print job is sent to the printer.
- This setting is particularly important to Hewlett
- Packard IIP, IIIP, and other similar type laser
- printers which will not feed an envelope from the
- manual feed tray when the lower paper cassette is
- installed without a direct call from the software.
- Owners of these printers will want to select
- BIN 0 (UPPER TRAY), or BIN 2 (MANUAL FEED), if the
- lower paper cassette is installed. This will allow
- you to have the lower cassette as the primary paper
- source and Winvelope will print the envelope from
- the upper tray.
-
- Owners of other types of laser printers may use this
- setting to choose whether or not a manual feed prompt
- is desired when Winvelope prints an envelope. This
- may be desirable if the printer is located a distance
- from the user or if the printer is being shared and
- there is potential for someone else's printjob ending
- up on your envelope! A little trial and error may be
- necessary here to get the desired effect, as a
- particular BIN number may produce different effects
- on different brands and models of printers.
-
- If after installing Winvelope you find the envelope
- won't feed or the address prints on a page from the
- wrong paper source, try different BIN settings until
- the desired effect is obtained.
-
- See the Winvelope Software Manual for a chart of
- Paper Bin designations for some popular laser
- printers.
-
-
-
- RETURN ADDRESS SETUP:
-
- To store the default primary and alternate return
- addresses, activate the SETUP pull-down menu and
- select RETURN ADDRESS. Enter the desired text for
- both the primary and alternate return addresses in
- the spaces provided and SAVE. Before printing, you
- may select from the options of the Primary,
- Alternate, or no return address.
-
-
-
-
-
- CONVERTING TEXT TO ALL CAPS:
-
- The Postal Service now recommends using all capital
- letters when addressing mail. Winvelope allows you
- to convert any address to all caps by making the
- selection in the 'Printing Defaults' menu. If you
- change this setting after you have PASTED the address
- and/or activated the return address option, you will
- have to CLEAR and re-PASTE the address and turn the
- return address option off and back on to see the
- results.
-
-
-
- SETTING PRINT MARGINS:
-
- Winvelope has a very flexible adjustment for address
- print positions. Adjustment down to a tenth of an
- inch can be made to the top and left print margins for
- both the return and addressee positions. These
- adjustments are made by accessing the 'Adjust Print
- Position' selection located at the bottom of the SETUP
- pull-down menu. If adjustment is necessary, it may be
- easier to print to an 8-1/2" x 11" sheet of paper
- first and then measure approximately how far margins
- need to be adjusted to hit the envelope. Margins are
- measured from the extent of the printer's print range
- rather than from the edge of the envelope.
-
- Suggested print margins values to try for CENTER FEED
- envelopes are:
- #10 #9 #6
- Return Address Top Margin 2.2 2.4 2.4
- Return Address Left Margin 1.6 2.4 4.6
- Addressee Top Margin 3.8 3.8 3.8
- Addressee Left Margin 6.0 6.5 7.5
-
- For RIGHT SIDE FEED envelopes:
-
- Return Address Top Margin 0.1 0.1 0.1
- Return Address Left Margin 1.7 2.4 4.7
- Addressee Top Margin 1.6 1.6 1.6
- Addressee Left Margin 6.0 6.0 7.3
-
-
-
- ADDRESS BOOK:
-
- You may maintain and work from an unlimited number
- of address book files created by Windows Cardfile.
- Winvelope comes with one address book file already
- setup for use with the filename ADBOOK.CRD. To
- create others, use Windows Cardfile to save as
- many files as you need. You could for instance
- save files with the names BUSINESS.CRD,
- PERSONAL.CRD, XMASLIST.CRD, etc. These files can
- be stored anywhere, but will be more convenient
- for selecting if they are in the Winvelope
- subdirectory. To select a file for accessing,
- activate Winvelope Setup and and click on the
- Select Address Book menu item. Choose a file from
- the dialog box and it will become the active
- address book file. The selected file will remain
- the default address book until changed by the
- previous proceedure. When you activate the ADDRESS
- BOOK button, Winvelope will load Windows Cardfile
- and the default address book file for storing or
- retrieving an address.
-
-
-
- ENVELOPE ADDRESSING:
-
- With Winvelope, there are three methods for
- addressing an envelope:
-
- Capture an address from your Windows document by
- copying it to the Windows Clipboard. Activate
- Winvelope and use the PASTE ADDRESS button to paste
- the address on the envelope.
-
- From Winvelope, activate the ADDRESS BOOK button
- which will launch Windows Cardfile and the default
- address book filename. Copy a selected address to
- the Clipboard and PASTE as in method 1. Refer to
- the Windows manual for more information on the use
- of Cardfile.
-
- From Winvelope, type an address directly onto the
- envelope address box.
-
-
-
- FONT SELECTION:
-
- Printer fonts installed in Windows are available for
- selection when printing envelopes. Individual
- selections can be made for both the return address
- and addressee text by using the FONTS button to
- access the font menu dialog box.
-
- Every time you change a font or attribute setting,
- the new value is saved with the corresponding
- envelope template to the WNVELOPE.INI file in the
- Windows subdirectory. When you switch between
- different size envelopes, your last settings used
- for each will be retrieved from this file. If
- Winvelope cannot find a compatible matching screen
- font for the printer font selected, it will substitute
- the HELV screen font for display purposes; however,
- the correct printer font will be used by the printer.
-
- Bold and/or Italic type and font sizes for the return
- address and addressee text may also be selected from
- the Font Menu dialog box.
-
-
-
- PRINTING:
-
- The PRINT ENVELOPE button prints the envelope via the
- Windows printer driver similar to any other Windows
- application. If your printer prints envelopes in the
- landscape orientation, the printer will be changed to
- this orientation automatically prior to printing and
- then changed back to portrait orientation when
- finished.
-
-
-
- TROUBLE SHOOTING
-
- Problem:
- Winvelope won't print in landscape mode.
-
- Possible Solutions:
- Make sure landscape is selected in Printing Defaults
- under Winvelope Setup.
-
- You may have a printer and/or printer driver that does
- not support this feature. The current variety of Canon
- and Publisher's Powerpak drivers are known not to
- support Auto-landscape. If you have one of these, you
- will need to use the Printer Setup button that will
- allow you to switch to landscape and/or change paper
- trays manually.
-
- Problem:
- HP Deskjet doesn't feed envelope properly.
-
- Solution:
- The current family of HP Deskjet printer drivers do not
- allow for Paper Bin selection. Deskjet users must
- activate the PRINTER SETUP button and select ENVELOPE
- as the paper size prior to printing.
-
- Problem:
- Screen fonts do not match printer fonts selected from
- the Winvelope FONTS dialog box.
-
- Solution:
- Make sure you have installed matching screen fonts for
- your third party font managers.
-
- Winvelope may not recognize screen fonts for certain
- font cartridges or internal printer fonts. When
- Winvelope cannot find a matching screen font for the
- printer font selected, the Windows HELV screen font
- will be substituted for display purposes. Winvelope
- will use the correct font for printing however.
-
