Introduction
------------
The included files are updated graphic filters that correct certain
problems that may occur when using the graphics filters shipped with
Word for Windows versions 1.1a and earlier. Below is a list of the
replacement graphics filters:
Filename Size Date Description
-------- ---- ---- -----------
EPSIMP.FLT 71648 08-01-91 EPS Filter
Addresses a known problem with documents that contain an EPS
graphic -- the document partially prints or does not print at all.
PCXIMP.FLT 12912 08-01-91 PCX Filter
Corrects problems with PCX graphics -- either copied from the
Windows Clipboard or imported using the Picture command on the
Insert menu -- displaying and/or printing as black boxes.
TIFF.FLT 58880 08-01-91 TIFF Filter
Corrects problems with TIFF graphics -- either copied from the
Windows Clipboard or imported using the Picture command on the
Insert menu -- displaying and/or printing as black boxes.
WMF.FLT 5104 08-01-91 Windows Metafile Filter
Removes the 64K maximum graphics file size limitation on the
importation of Windows metafile graphics that existed with the WMF
filter shipped with Word for Windows 1.1a and earlier.
Installing the Replacement Graphics Filters
-------------------------------------------
The following are steps to install the updated graphics filters for
Word for Windows. It is assumed that Word for Windows has been
installed on your hard disk and that the graphics filters in question
have also been previously installed in the same directory as Word for
Windows. To install the replacement graphics filters, do the
following:
1. Exit Windows and use the PKUNZIP.EXE program to unzip the
downloaded file.
3. Once unzipped, copy all of the files to your WINWORD program
directory (i.e. COPY *.FLT C:\WINWORD).
The new graphics filters have now been installed. Start Windows, start
Word for Windows, and use the Picture command on the Insert menu to
insert TIFF, PCX, WMF, or EPS images.
Note: If you need to revert to the previous filters, you must rerun
the Word for Windows Setup program. To do this:
1. Exit Windows.
2. Insert the Word for Windows Setup disk in the floppy-disk drive.
Make drive A active by typing a: and pressing enter. Type setup
and press enter.
3. When prompted for a directory, choose the same drive and
directory where Word for Windows is currently installed, for
example, C:\WINWORD. You will then be asked whether Setup should
overwrite existing files. Choose to skip the overwriting of
existing files (if you choose to overwrite existing files, a
full installation of the program will be done).
4. When prompted to install graphics filters, choose Yes. Choose
the graphics filter(s) from the list provided and continue with
Setup.
In addition to the graphics filters residing in the Word for Windows
program directory, the following information is added to the WIN.INI
file during installation (the following example will vary depending
upon the number of graphics filters installed):
