.With CLEANup
;
SCANTOOL helps you to remove the found viruses
easily, using CLEAN-UP.
SCANTOOL will show you a list of the possible
viruses. Choose the virus-name, which has to be
removed. You can return to the main menu by
pressing <ESC>.
If SCAN reports a virus which is not contained in
the list, you have to use CLEAN-UP from the DOS
prompt, i.e. exit SCANTOOL and remove the virus
using CLEAN-UP or SCAN manually.
It may be, that the only possibility you have, is
to use the SCAN /D option.
See the menu option "With SCAN /D.
* 2 2
.With SCAN /D
;
With this option SCAN will be called to remove
the virus, using the /D parameter.
Using this option SCAN will "Seek and Destroy"
all data in which a virus is found,in other words,
it will simply delete the file containing the
virus.

.CRC Check
;
SCAN will also check for new, unknown viruses with
the Add Validation and Check Validation options.
This is done by computing a code for a file,
appending it to the file, and then validating the
file against that code. If the file has been
modified, the check will no longer match, and
viral infection may have occurred. SCAN uses two
independently generated CRC:
(Cyclic Redundancy Check)
checks that are added to the end of program files
to do this. Files which are self-checking should
not be validated since this will "set off" the
program's self-check. Files which are self-
modifying may have different values for the same
program depending upon the modifications.
SCAN adds validation codes to .COM and .EXE files
only. The validation codes for the partition
table, boot sector, and system files, are kept in
a hidden file called SCANVAL.VAL in the root
directory.

.Make checksum
;
With this Menu Option, SCAN will do a CRC Check
of the file or directories or even a complete
drive of your choice. This will, of course,
increase the size of the file included in the CRC
check. Some programs include a self CRC Checking
routine, and because SCAN has written the CRC
result into the file the program may not function
afterwards.
In other words, great care is to be taken when
using this option.
* 4 2
.CRC Check
;
With this Option you can check all the files that
SCAN has written the Checksum to.
If the file has no Checksum,SCAN will nevertheless
scan the file for viruses.
;
;
You can choose between :
- Complete drives ( A: C:)
- Complete directories
- Single files
* 4 3
.Removal CRC Checksums
;
If you wish to remove the CRC checksum from the
files this is your option.
After the sucessful removel of the Checksum SCAN
will prompt you to continue .
SCAN calls the CRC Checksum : VALIDATIONCODE.
If there is no Checksum to remove, SCAN will just
simply scan the file for viruses in the normal
way.
