- Waiting... Waiting... Waiting... Waiting... Waiting... Waiting...
- Waiting... Waiting... Waiting... Waiting... Waiting... Waiting...
-
- All of us do this in our computing day. There are always exceptions to
- the rules. We wait while backing up, unless we have a tape drive. We
- wait while transferring a file, unless we are going at 38.4 or some
- amazing rate with a high priced modem. We wait during disk access,
- unless we have the latest speed bursting floppy drive, or hard drive
- controller. We wait while an image plots, unless we have the latest
- quadruple sync monitor with its own chip or something. We wait during
- printing, unless we have a super expensive hardware spooler.
-
- Well, for $18.00 you can help yourself with the last waiting portion.
- DMP offers to you what all that high priced equipment offers to others:
- time savings!
-
- USE: DMP is a professional product. You notice this from the superior
- manual design, and the lack of advanced wording. The manual is
- truly one of the better you will encounter. With a table of
- contents, headers, and page numbers, the only item that keeps it
- from attaining perfection is the missing index.
-
- Setting up DMP is simple. So simple, that the manual directs you by
- situations, rather than commands. What does this mean? Quick setup
- without the fuss. You can easily look for your computer
- configuration. Have a parallel port with a ram disk? No problem,
- the command for DMP is right here. Have a serial port with regular
- memory, no problem, here is the command. Of course, an explanation
- of the various options is included later in the manual.
-
- What does DMP do? Basically, it allows you to put data for printing
- some place else while the printer is tied up. It then feeds the
- printer data when it can, so it frees up the rest of the computer
- so you can work on something else.
-
- Where can you put this data? Anyplace. You can store it to a
- ramdisk, extended memory, expanded memory, regular memory, hard
- disk, or even a floppy disk. This should cover everyone.
-
- What kind of data can you store? Everything from straight ASCII
- dumps to complex .GIF printing. See, DMP, unlike other spoolers,
- never handles your data or converts it, all DMP does is pass it on
- to the printer when the printer is free. Therefore, it acts as a
- transparent link to your printer; managing data, while not
- interrupting the content.
-
- Were there any problems? Yes. Some commercial programs, that take
- control of the printer (Formtool mainly), didn't like DMP. DMP,
- though, can handle these problems by allowing you to bypass the
- control DMP has. The command line. Although DMP presented very
- logical commands in a very straight format, a menu interface would
- have benefited those who have never dealt with a print spooler.
-
- Were there any spectacular features? Yes. Combining different
- storage methods, and the ability to filter certain characters from
- the printer.

-
- Lacking only a menu interface in its quest for perfection, DMP sets new
- standards for software print spoolers. Looking to the future, DMP seems
- to have success on its horizons.
