Readme.1st Welcome to Beta User 1.0
The Beta Tester Database Program
A few things to cover before you dive into the program.
This should be a authenticated ZIP format. If not, then its possible
that you have not received the original archive released. Some BBS
SysOps do change the archive format when the file is placed on their
BBS. To confirm that you have received all the files originally
packaged, a file list is shown below, generated by
PKUNZIP -v buser10
PKUNZIP (R) FAST! Extract Utility Version 1.1 03-15-90

NOTE: The Readme.1st file was not included in this scan.
System Requirements:
1. Hard Disk:
To get started we reccomend 1 meg of hard drive space. The program
with all docs etc occupies about 233k of disk space. Another 300k
of space is required when the program swaps to disk for running DOS
commands from within the program. Some files may be deleted, see
below. Also, as your data files grow, they will require more room.
The program can be run from a floppy, but is much more efficient
from a hard disk. This will be discussed further.

2. Memory: Beta User 1.0 requires 400k of available memory to run
correctly. 500k or better is strongly advised, to get optimum use
from the program. So, a 640k memory system is the optimum.
3. DOS Ver. Beta User 1.0 was originally designed with Dos 3.3, but
should run well with any 3.x version. Runs under 4.0 and 5.0 also.
I have never tested with versions earlier than 3.3, if you do run
it under earlier versions, or if you have trouble with earlier
versions, I'd like to know about it.
4. Video: Will run under MONO, CGA, EGA, VGA. Beta User 1.0 will
automatically recognize the video. If you're running mono, you're
gonna miss some of the great color benifits.
5. Printer: A printer is required for the Shareware version to obtain
printed reports. The registered version allows printing to a file,
for later printing.
To Install:
Make a directory on your Hard drive ie: \BUSER then place the
BUSER10.ZIP in that directory and unpack it, PKUUZIP BUSER10
If you do not have a copy of PKUNZIP, you should be able to obtain
it from the BBS where you downloaded the file.
RRUN.EXE may be placed in another directory, that is in your
PATH statement. But BETA.COM needs to reside in the same
directory as the program files.
Once the program has been unzipped, you can view or print the
documentation one of two ways.
From the DOS prompt: type BUSER. to read the manual in a scrolling
window. To print, enter either: copy BUSER10.doc prn - or -
type BUSER10.doc>prn
OR type BETA to start Beta User 1.0, press F10 from the Main Menu
Then from The DOS window choose the command to View or Print
the Manual.
Files Required:
The following files ARE required to run Beta User 1.0.
*.DAT The data files.
*.K## #= a digit; the index files
*.MEM The Memo files
RRUN.EXE The Runtime Engine: May be in another directory

Files For Deletion:
The following files can be deleted, we reccomend that you do not do
so right away. Please read the manual before you do delete them.
Readme.1st This file
Buser10.doc Program Manual
Custom.doc How to get your program modified
Register.frm Form for registering Invoice Tracker
(After you have registered of course,<grin>)
Newstart.com You should keep this one until you have read the
manual, and played with the program, using the
supplied data files. Once you are familar with
the program, use this to erase the supplied
data, index and memo files so you will have a
clean slate for your information.
Buser.com Autoview of the Program Manual
Avextra.txt Authentic Zip file text.
Running From Floppy:
Beta User 1.0 can be run from a floppy, 360k will work. You will
need the files listed on the previous page under required files.
Two things to remember, the data files you create along with the
index files will reside on the same disk, in the same directory. As
the required program files use up almost 200k, this leaves little
room for data and index files. A 1.2 floppy would be best.
Copy the files listed as REQUIRED to run Beta User to the floppy.
While Beta User 1.0 is very easy to use, it is strongly
reccomended that you read the manual, its only about 10 pages long,
and it will make learning the program even easier.
Thank You for Trying Beta User 1.0
