I got pmfree.exe from the IBM NSC BBS. No documentation is available
 for it there. It is a PM utility which displays free RAM and free disk
space at a user selected frequency. It has the option of always staying
 on top of other windows. I have tried it under 2.0, I don't know if it works under earlier versions.
   On my system, lockup will not activate if pmfree is running, nor will
shutdown complete until you stop pmfree.
