  4. INTRODUCTION
  5. ============
  6. We have decided to release this Beta Version of BUBBA for two reasons.  
  7.  
  8. First, we have noticed a lot of message traffic on the IBM National 
  9. Support Center BBS on the subject of OS/2 message readers.  We felt that
  10. the IBM BBS supports the OS/2 cause (as we do) and we should help that
  11. effort.
  12.  
  13. Second, we are interested in getting feedback on whether a product like 
  14. this is in demand, and if so, what additional features it should have.
  15.  
  16. This is by NO MEANS a finished product.  This product cannot reply 
  17. print or save messages and will no longer function after June 1, 1992.
  18.  
  19. We have set up our own Bulletin Board to answer questions, provide 
  20. support and bug fixes and, most importantly, obtain feedback from you.

  59. INSTALLATION
  60. ============
  61. Use an un-zipper, like PKUNZIP, to un-zip the file BUBBADIR.ZIP.
  62. You *must* use the -d option to preserve the directory structure.
  63. Un-zipping the distribution file (BUBBADIR.ZIP) will create the directory
  64. structure necessary to run BUBBA. It is important that the directory 
  65. structure provided in the distribution file be maintained.  BUBBA requires
  66. approximately .5 megabyte of disk space (without downloaded messages).

  70. The only OS/2 system configuration necesary is to be sure that the LIBPATH
  71. statement in config.sys have ".;".  
  72.  
  73. At this point, take a moment to read the file BUBBA.DOC.  This file outlines
  74. how to operate BUBBA.

  76. RUNNING BUBBA
  77. =============
  78. Once installed, you can run BUBBA at a command prompt by typing:
  79.     cd \BUBBA
  80.     BUBBA
  81. or, add BUBBA to any PM Group, insuring that the current directory is \BUBBA.

  83. SETUP
  84. =====
  85.     Before attempting any on-line operations, you should select the SETUP
  86. Workspace and type in your userids and passwords for any of the supplied BBSs
  87. that you want to access.  Also, check that the telephone numbers and modem
  88. initialization and termination strings are appropriate.
  89.  
  90.     Recent Forum and Area lists have been provided.  Fora for BBSs other
  91. than Compuserve do not change very often.  In the case of Compuserve,
  92. however, you will probably want to add your own favorite fora. You should 
  93. also select the Areas that you want to visit.

  95. BBS SETUP

  97.     Compuserve -

  99.     IBM National Support Center -
  100.         We recommend that you toggle expert mode on.  It speeds things 
  101.             up. Graphics should be turned off.
  102.     
  103.     Fernwood -
  104.         You should be setup as:
  105.             Novice, without More? prompts, no IBM characters, 
  106.             no clear screen, tty mode and no hotkeys.

  108.     OS/2 Shareware -
  109.         You should be setup as:
  110.             Novice, without More? prompts, no IBM characters, 
  111.             no clear screen, tty mode and no hotkeys.

  113.     Bubba -
  114.         You should be setup as:
  115.             Novice, without More? prompts, no IBM characters, 
  116.             no clear screen, tty mode and no hotkeys.

  118. KNOWN PROBLEMS:
  119. ===============
  120.     * BUBBA - does not always position large trees properly when tracking 
  121.         the    left and right arrows.
  122.  
  123.     * BUBBA - You are not always notified when an on-line operation fails.
  124.  
  125.     * BUBBA - The number of Re-dial retries is hard coded.  
  126.  
  127.     * BUBBA - There is no way to stop an on-line operation on demand.
  128.  
  129.     * BUBBA - Due to script resync, it is possible to download a duplicate
  130.               message.  This causes the message tree for that subject
  131.               to be corrupted if another message in the download references
  132.               the duplicates.  One duplicate can be edited out of the MSG
  133.               file.

  135.     * BUBBA - There is no keyboard interface.  A mouse is required.
  136.  
  137.     * BUBBA - takes a while to load.  Though each board is loaded in a
  138.         separate thread, you must wait for the first one to load.
  139.  
  140.     * IBM NSC Bulletins change frequently, therefore the order of More and
  141.         Continue prompts vary.  While BUBBA is programmed to expect this,
  142.         sometimes it seems to get lost.    (Especially if not in expert mode.)
  143.  
  144.     * Compuserve - You must already have "joined" a forum.  The Join button
  145.         in the Area list will only get new section lists.
  146.  
  147.     * Compuserve - You cannot delete (or edit) a forum.
  148.  
  149.     * Compuserve - BUBBA does not handle E-Mail.
  150.     
  151.     * Maximus Boards (Fernwood and OS/2 Shareware) ---
  152.         These boards change message numbers dynamically.  Since BUBBA 
  153.         saves message numbers, it keeps track (as best it can) of the
  154.         changes in message numbers.  Currently, this algorithm is still
  155.         in development. We suggest that once you download new subjects,
  156.         you download all desired messages as soon as possible. (We are 
  157.         seeking help from Maximus experts on this problem!)
