  8.         Running LaserTwin for the First Time
  9.  
  10.         Insert  the LaserTwin master diskette, log onto the floppy
  11.         drive and type FIRSTIME. This program will set up a
  12.         directory and lead you through the installation. When
  13.         through, you may run LaserTwin by  just  typing LT. You MUST
  14.         run the program FIRSTIME  from the LaserTwin master
  15.         diskette. Simply copying the files to your hard disk will
  16.         NOT work.

  20.         Testing the Program

  22.         To  check that LaserTwin is installed and working properly,
  23.         type TESTLT  after LaserTwin has been run. This should
  24.         produce a test printout in a few minutes.

  28.         Using LaserTwin with your Software
  29.  
  30.         Make sure LaserTwin has  been  run and is resident before
  31.         you run  your applications package. To  use LaserTwin with
  32.         your software, install  your applications package for the HP
  33.         Series II printer driver with maximum memory, depending on free
  34.         disk space available.  You  should also make sure that there
  35.         is  at  least one megabyte of free disk space available before
  36.         using your software.

  40.         Troubleshooting Section

  42.         If you are loading LaserTwin and the computer is trying to
  43.         access drive A or B, it means that the spooler default path
  44.         has been set for  that  drive.  This must be changed back to
  45.         the  hard drive through the LTINSTAL program.

  48.         If Your Application Hangs
  49.  
  50.         If your program is hanging with LaserTwin running, reboot,
  51.         change to the LaserTwin directory, and instead of typing LT
  52.         at the DOS prompt, type: LT /M75 <Enter>. If still hanging,
  53.         experiment by incrementing the /M parameter by 25. You may
  54.         go as far as LT /M400. This switch moves memory back to
  55.         your application.

  59.         Input Buffers and Performance
  60.  
  61.         You may increase printer performance by increasing LaserTwin's
  62.         input buffer with the /B switch. The default buffer size is 1024
  63.         bytes of memory. Depending upon the amount of memory available,
  64.         you may increase buffer size to a maximum of approximately
  65.         44,000 bytes. When loading LaserTwin at the DOS prompt type:

  70.         Using /B with PageMaker 3.0
  71.  
  72.             Printer performance is vastly improved  in PageMaker
  73.             with the /B switch. Try loading  LT /B10000 to start.
  74.             Also under PageMaker's Print window choose 'Fast Rules'
  75.             when using graphics. This will greatly reduce the print time.

  78.         Using /B with Ventura Publisher and other Memory Hogs
  79.  
  80.             If you are running a program that uses a lot of memory,
  81.             such as Ventura Publisher, and your memory is limited,
  82.             decreasing LaserTwin's buffer size may be necessary.
  83.             Minimum size is 128 bytes. You may experiment with any
  84.             value in between to get maximum printer performance.

  86.             If you have extra memory, take advantage of faster printing
  87.             with a higher /B value.

  90.         Using /M and /B Switches Together
  91.  
  92.             The /M and /B switches may be used together if needed.
  93.             Notation is LT [/M#1] [/B#2]. #1 = Kbytes #2 = bytes.

  99.         Application Notes

  101.         The spooler file in Windows and PageMaker now works without
  102.         editing the WIN.INI file. Disregard the first paragraph
  103.         under Microsoft Windows (p. 23) and PageMaker 3.0 (p. 29) in
  104.         the manual unless you still have problems hanging. If that
  105.         happens, go ahead and turn off the Windows spooler.

  107.         To  print landscape in WordPerfect 5.0, the page format must be
  108.         set up. To do this select Shift F8, then #2, #8, #2, #1.
