TITLE: Remote Maintenance, Line Problem
DOCUMENT #: TB.S.P260
DATE: June 5, 1991
PRODUCT: NetWare SNA Gateway (Remote) V1.2, V1.3
NetWare 3270 Multi Workstation
PRODUCT VERSION: See Above
SUPERSEDES: P210 & P232 (except P232 remains valid for version 1.1)
SYMPTOM: An X() which does not clear
ISSUE/PROBLEM
1. A workstation using the Gateway receives a X() which does not clear
while other workstations continue to function with no problems.
The problem occurs when a line problem temporarily disables CTS on the
Gateway modem. If CTS is disabled for more than 5 seconds the Gateway
discarded the SDLC frame that it was trying to transmit.
From Prior PTFs
2. Particularly while using some modems, the host logs a high proportion of
ABORT FRAMES (about 1 frame in 20). This is sometimes accompanied by slow
response times.
3. The UA (Unnumbered Acknowledgement) frame in response to a Set Normal
Response Mode (SNRM) has an additional byte attached to the frame.
Some Front End Processors will not accept the frame with the additional
byte and in that case the Remote Gateway does not become active within VTAM
(blank screen, no 4B, just line column indicator).
SOLUTION:
1. The Gateway will no longer discard the frame.
The PTF solves problem #2 by reducing the number of Abort Frames and by
ensuring that RTS is not dropped before FCS is transmitted.
The PTF solves problem #3 by eliminating the extra byte.
To Use the PTF
Copy the new NVLSDLCP.BIN into the working directory of the Gateway,
replacing the old NVLSDLCP.BIN.
