Network Demo Programs
using the
Sigma NetBIOS Engine for DOS/Windows 3.x
and
NetBIOS Compatible Networks
**********************************************************
This disk contains several network demonstration programs for NetBIOS
compatible networks created with the Sigma NetBIOS Engine by Sigma Software
Research. The text mode versions were create with WINDOWS.TXT by Interactive
Engineering. Feel free to use them and distribute these programs in any way
you wish.
The disk contains sample programs that run under DOS or Windows 3.1 (assuming
Windows is properly configured to run with a network). The sample programs
are as follows:
DOS Version Windows 3.1
----------- -----------
TALKD.EXE TALK.EXE - Real-time network talk/chat program
FERRETD.EXE NFERRET.EXE - NetBIOS monitoring application
TDSD.EXE TDS.EXE - Time/Date Server(broadcaster)
TDCD.EXE TDC.EXE - Time/Date Client(receiver)
NETBWIN.DLL - Sigma NetBIOS Engine DLL for Window 3.1
NOTE: You must place NETBWIN.DLL in the C:\WINDOWS or C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
directory in order to run the Windows versions.
These programs have been tested with Novell, 3COM, and LANtastic networks
and a wide variety of DOS NetBIOS device drivers.
Using TALK
----------
Copy TALK to two machines. Start the programs and enter a 15 character
unique name (i.e. ROGER on one and BILL on the other). After the program
initializes, you may call and talk with another user by selecting the
'Call' option from the menu. Note that the name you are calling must
match the listeners name exactly. If the called name is listening, you
will be connected and able to type characters in the 'Send' box in the
top window. Any characters the called station types appear in the bottom
window. After you are through talking, select 'Hangup' from the menu.
Note that the program is constantly listening for calls except when you
are calling or talking with another person.
Using TDC/TDS
-------------
These programs simply illustrate datagram sending/receiving. The program
TDS is a time/date server that broadcasts the machines current time/date
across network. Start TDS.EXE on a machine and use TDC.EXE on other
machine(s) to receive the time/date from broadcasting servers. Under
Windows you may start many copies of TDS at once.
Network Ferret
--------------
This program allows you to monitor the netbios adapter status of a local
or remote node. Start the program and select the 'Node Name' menu option.
Accept '*' to monitor the local machines adapter status. To monitor a remote
node, you must enter a node name that currently exists on the adapter.
