┌──────────────────┐
│ Upgrading EEMail │
└──────────────────┘
When upgrading, ensure your user's are not active in EEMail,
as the .OVL file in the EEMail directory is open and
cannot be copied over with the new version if so. If loading
the program in TSR mode, the .OVL file is open even if they
are not actively using the program. Have your users log out
or "Unload" the program before upgrading.
If you are upgrading from version 3.35, simply copy the contents
of the ZIP package to your existing EEMail directory, flag the
files as SRW, and go!
If you are upgrading from a version above 3.0, please perform the
following:
EEMail since version 3.34 takes a different approach to the bindery
from the network. Previous to 3.34, EEMail read the user information
into memory, then removed the excluded users from the list. This meant
that on larger networks, significant memory was being used to contain
this information, and the program took longer to load.
EEMail 3.3x is now much faster to load and requires less memory! ADMIN
is quite a bit different and requires that you create a database
of users and groups.
To upgrade your copy of EEMAIL, perform the steps below. Make sure your
users are not accessing the program before performing these steps! If
they are, the .OVL file will not be copied in step 12.
If you are upgrading from any version prior to 3.00, please contact us
for specific instructions.
1 UnZIP the program files to a local disk. For example:
c:
md\temp
cd\temp
pkunzip c:\files\eemail.zip (or wherever the ZIP file resides)
2 COPY ADMIN.EXE m: (replace "m:" with your existing EEMAIL directory)
3 ATTACH to all servers on your network as a SUPERVISOR or equivalent.
ie: ATTACH SERVER2/SUPERVISOR
4 m: (replace "m:" with your existing EEMAIL directory)
5 Run ADMIN.EXE by typing ADMIN then pressing <Enter>
6 Select "Maintain User/Group List", then "Import From Bindery."
7 The names of the attached servers display. You can then type the
server's mail name for each of the attached servers. If you
are not running MHS, accept the default physical server name as
the servers' mail name. If you are running MHS, type the name
of the MHS workgroup route in this field if different than the
physical server name.
8 When finished entering the server names, pressing <Enter> on the
last field displays a "Yes/No" confirmation box. Choosing "Yes"
will begin the procedure. When complete, you are returned to the
ADMIN main menu.
9 From the ADMIN main menu, select "Maintain User/Group List" again,
then select "Edit User List." The User/Group List database is
displayed.
10 Press <Ctrl>+<Del> to exclude users that do not need to have a
mailbox. Users which are excluded will not show up as valid
EEMail users.
11 Press <Esc> to return to the ADMIN main menu, then select
"Create Mailboxes." This procedure will check each user and
ensure a mailbox exists. It will not affect existing users' data
files.
12 Copy the existing files contained in the master ZIP file to your
EEMAIL program directory.
13 FLAG *.* SRW to set the proper file attribute.
14 Run the new EEMAIL program. Select "Create Mail" then press
<F5> to view the new user/group list. Quite a difference!
15 You can now delete the old User/Group Exclude list from the
EEMAIL program directory:
DEL EXCLUDE.*
You are now finished upgrading the EEMAIL program!
