New for ver. 1.18
1. When using SDC, if the /t switch was combined with the /s
switch the path file would be removed and a new one would
not be generated. SDC would then have to scan the drives the
next time it was used. This problem has now been fixed.
New for ver. 1.17
1. In FFV, the Esc key did not work during string searches.
Now fixed. FFV also runs a little faster than before.
2. SDC and SDL can now handle up to 400 matching directories.
About the only way you can get this number of matches on a
large system is to use the backspace key in Speed Search. If
the buffer does fill up you can still use Speed Search to reduce
the number of matches. The total number of directories on a
system is limited only by the time that it takes to search the
database. On an XT Turbo with a slow hard disk I got acceptable
performance with over 400 directories. A fast system should be
able to handle more than 1000 before it bogs down.
New for ver. 1.16
1. SDC now uses just one path file for all hard disk
partitions, stored in the root directory of drive C.
This change improves the way the backspace key works
during speed searches and should allow SDC to run
faster on large systems with many logical drives. You
can still access drives explicitly but the speed advantage
won't be that great. Floppy drives still have a separate
path file for each floppy, and you will have to scan each
floppy disk to install the path file.
2. When a directory was created, removed or relocated
on a drive locked out with SDNOSCAN, SDC would still
try to access the path file. This problem has now been
fixed.
3. The Slick Directory Lister has been upgraded to work
with the new version of SDC. You should not try to use
an older version of SDL with the new version of SDC.
New for ver. 1.15
1. SDC will now try to do an immediate directory change
before checking the path file for matches. Typing SDC
by itself will display the name of the current directory
instead of the help screen. Use SDC /? to display the
help screen. If your operating system or command shell
supports aliases, these changes will allow SDC to be used
in place of the CD command.
2. Drives locked out with SDNOSCAN will not be scanned under
any circumstances. This change should work better on networks.
3. The speed search feature now has better error trapping and
works a little smoother.
4. PDQ now has a text file viewer which can be used for reading
DOC files and a lot of other things. Why register four or five
separate utilities when you can register PDQ for one low price?
5. COLOR was a little hard to type so it has been renamed CC,
for Change Color.
New for ver. 1.14
1. The pick menus for SDC and SDL were not very good so
they have been given a new format with both a selector bar and
a speed search feature. SDC will now handle up to 300 matching
directories.
2. You can now lock out undesired drives by setting the
environment variable SDNOSCAN to the letters of the drives
that you wish to ignore. For example:
SET SDNOSCAN=DF
will cause SDC and SDL to ignore drives D and F. SDC will
never ignore the current drive so you can still access these
drives by logging into them.
New for ver. 1.13
1. More changes for SDC. The /t switch will now give you
an opportunity to choose a directory at the end of each
page. The /n switch will default to continuous scroll
mode. Combining the /s switch with these switches will
cause all hard drives to be scanned.
2. The /re switch has been replaced by a /mv switch and
directories can now be moved as well as renamed.
New for ver. 1.12
1. When using SDC, the /r switch can now delete non-empty
directories and will recursively delete all subdirectories.
A /re switch has been added to rename directories.
2. PDQ Utils will now accept either a "-" or a "/" as
a switch character. Switches can either be strung
together as in
sdl /4xe
or separated by switch characters as in
sdl /4/x/e
3. The Gonzo File Finder will now do searches based on
number of days back as well as actual dates.
New for ver. 1.11
1. Fixed two bugs in GFF. The /d switch would not work
and the /m switch would report inaccurate file totals
at the end.
2. When listing a directory on another drive SDL would
sometimes fail to restore the current directory for
that drive. This is minor but good programs should
put things back where they found them.
3. If PATH.SDC is missing from the root directory of
a drive SDC will now scan the drive and proceed,
instead of aborting. The /s switch can still be used
for updates.
