NOS FILE INSTALLATION
---------------------
To set up a working NOS environment using the template files in
the NOSfiles directory, do the following:
1. Install NOSview and NOSfiles (see !!README.1ST).
2. Edit your CONFIG.SYS file so that it contains the commands
contained in NOSfiles\CONFIG.SYS.
3. Edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file so that it contains the commands
contained in NOSfiles\AUTOEXEC.BAT (modifying directory names
if necessary).
4. Edit !INSTALL.BAT if necessary to match your environment, by
changing the directories in the SET NOSFILES and/or SET
NOSROOT commands.
5. Edit NOSENV.BAT to match your environment. Note that this
file will be executed automatically at DOS system boot time
(NOSENV.BAT is CALLed by AUTOEXEC.BAT).
Note also that the installation script (which you will run
in step 7 below) copies NOSENV.BAT to C:\.
6. Edit the following files to match your environment:
ALIAS
* AREAS
AUTOEXEC.NOS
BM.RC
* BOB
* BOB.SIG
DOMAIN.TXT
ELM.RC
FORWARD.BBS
FTPUSERS
NET.RC
REWRITE
STARTNOS.BAT
* In files AREAS, BOB and BOB.SIG, remove all the
explanatory text down to and including the dotted line,
otherwise this text will be transmitted over the air.
(Alternatively, the first time you try NOS, you may prefer
to leave these files in their original state, to verify that
you have a complete working system before tailoring it to
suit your environment. In this case it is recommended that
you do NOT try it out live on-air ...)
7. Run the installation script, with the command:
!INSTALL
8. When installation is complete, check that all the directories
and files listed in the install script have been set up.
9. Reboot the system.
10. Finally, start running NOS with the command:
STARTNOS
