  6. NOS FILE INSTALLATION
  7. ---------------------
  8.  
  9. To set up a working NOS environment using the template files in
  10. the NOSfiles directory, do the following:
  11.  
  12. 1.  Install NOSview and NOSfiles (see !!README.1ST).
  13.  
  14. 2.  Edit your CONFIG.SYS file so that it contains the commands
  15.     contained in NOSfiles\CONFIG.SYS.
  16.  
  17. 3.  Edit your AUTOEXEC.BAT file so that it contains the commands
  18.     contained in NOSfiles\AUTOEXEC.BAT (modifying directory names
  19.     if necessary).
  20.  
  21. 4.  Edit !INSTALL.BAT if necessary to match your environment, by
  22.     changing the directories in the SET NOSFILES and/or SET
  23.     NOSROOT commands.
  24.  
  25. 5.  Edit NOSENV.BAT to match your environment.  Note that this
  26.     file will be executed automatically at DOS system boot time
  27.     (NOSENV.BAT is CALLed by AUTOEXEC.BAT).
  28.  
  29.     Note also that the installation script (which you will run
  30.     in step 7 below) copies NOSENV.BAT to C:\.
  31.  
  32. 6.  Edit the following files to match your environment:
  33.  
  34.         ALIAS
  35.      *  AREAS
  36.         AUTOEXEC.NOS
  37.         BM.RC
  38.      *  BOB
  39.      *  BOB.SIG
  40.         DOMAIN.TXT
  41.         ELM.RC
  42.         FORWARD.BBS
  43.         FTPUSERS
  44.         NET.RC
  45.         REWRITE
  46.         STARTNOS.BAT
  47.  
  48.      *  In files AREAS, BOB and BOB.SIG, remove all the
  49.         explanatory text down to and including the dotted line,
  50.         otherwise this text will be transmitted over the air.
  51.  
  52.  
  53.     (Alternatively, the first time you try NOS, you may prefer
  54.     to leave these files in their original state, to verify that
  55.     you have a complete working system before tailoring it to
  56.     suit your environment.  In this case it is recommended that
  57.     you do NOT try it out live on-air ...)
  58.  
  59. 7.  Run the installation script, with the command:
  60.  
  61.           !INSTALL
  62.  
  63. 8.  When installation is complete, check that all the directories
  64.     and files listed in the install script have been set up.
  65.  
  66. 9.  Reboot the system.
  67.  
  68. 10. Finally, start running NOS with the command:
  69.  
  70.           STARTNOS
  71.
