  2.                    INSTALLATION

  4.      Video One version 2.5 should be very easy to install.  All files
  5.      must reside in the same directory.     While a hard disk is highly
  6.      recommended, it is not mandatory.    However, the system will operate
  7.      much faster on a hard disk as this is a database program that must
  8.      access many files.     For that same reason, you must verify that your
  9.      CONFIG.SYS file contains a statement with FILES=45 or more in it.
  10.      I say you must verify this.  If you do not, at some point during
  11.      running Video One, you may see a red box on the screen that says
  12.      something like 'Not Enough Files Available'.  If you see this box,
  13.      increase the FILES=XXX line of your CONFIG.SYS file.  For
  14.      demonstration purposes I have included some sample data.  The
  15.      easiest way to delete that data is to delete the entire data file.
  16.      To delete all of the sample FILMS, from the DOS prompt, enter the
  17.      following three commands:

  19.      DEL VIDEO_1.DAT
  20.      DEL VIDEO_1.MEM
  21.      DEL VIDEO_1.K??
  22.  
  23.      To delete all of the sample PEOPLE, from the DOS prompt, enter the
  24.      following command:
  25.  
  26.      DEL PEOPLE.*
  27.  
  28.      And finally, to delete all of the sample CODES, from the DOS
  29.      prompt, enter the following command:

  31.      DEL CODES.*
  32.  
  33.      DO NOT delete SORTS.DAT.  If you accidentally do so, you will have
  34.      to extract a new copy from the archive.

  36.      The only other thing you might want to do is to specify a file
  37.      viewing program other than the one we have provided which is called
  38.      PAGE.COM.    If you wish to do so, from the Main Menu, select
  39.      'Utilities' and then 'Defaults' and specify the name on the second
  40.      line of the form.

  43.                    USING VIDEO ONE 2.5

  45.      You should find Video One version 2.5 very self-explainatory.  I
  46.      have not included a manual in the form of a disk file because the
  47.      program contains very extensive on-line help.  The bottom three lines
  48.      of the screen always provide help for what you are doing now.  Also,
  49.      more extensive pop-up help is usually available by pressing the <F1>
  50.      key.

  53.                    DISCLAIMER

  55.      Well, I hate the necessity of the next two parts, but I can't
  56.      afford to not try to protect myself so here we go...

  58.      Users of Video One must accept this disclaimer of warranty:

  60.      "Video One is supplied as is.  The author disclaims all warranties,
  61.      expressed or implied, including, without limitation, the warranties
  62.      of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.     The author
  63.      assumes no liability for damages, direct or consequential, which
  64.      may result from the use of Video One."

  67.              SHAREWARE LICENSE AND AGREEMENT
  68.  
  69.      Video One is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge to
  70.      the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your friends,
  71.      but please do not give it away piece-meal, altered, or as part of
  72.      another system.  Specifically, the file named 'CONFIG.DAT', which
  73.      contains a counter that causes the shareware information screen to
  74.      be displayed for the first FIVE runs of the program (not permanent
  75.      as in many shareware programs) may NOT be distributed.  It is
  76.      automatically created by the program on the first run.

  78.      Users of Video One are NOT required to register by making a
  79.      contribution to the Tracie Moorman Education Fund, but are highly
  80.      encouraged to do so.  PLEASE take a few minutes to read the story
  81.      show upon entry to Video One during the first five runs.  If you
  82.      missed it, you may see the same information by either exiting Video
  83.      One, deleting CONFIG.DAT, and re-running Video One or by selecting
  84.      'Registration Info' from the 'Utilities' sub-menu.     It explains
  85.      fully why I am asking for your help so Tracie may return to college
  86.      and how important every single contribution is since we are only
  87.      asking for at least ONE DOLLAR from every user.  I'm trying to not
  88.      duplicate a lot of stuff or I'd reprint the story here.

  90.      Because of the nature of Video One, we hope that you will not need
  91.      technical support.     Because we are asking for a donation of at
  92.      least one dollar and expect that most donations will be of one
  93.      dollar, the level of technical support that I can provide will be
  94.      minimal.  The only major technical support that might be needed
  95.      would be conversion of the data files from the version 2.0 format
  96.      to the version 2.5 format which only applies to those who are
  97.      currently using version 2.0.  Since only two people have registered
  98.      version 2.0 in over one year of distribution, I have not provided a
  99.      data file conversion program as I did when I released 2.0 for the
  100.      1.0 users.     If you are currently using 2.0 which was full fledged
  101.      shareware and are not one of the two people that have registered it
  102.      and wish to have your data files converted, you will have to do the
  103.      following:

  105.       1.   Make a copy of your data files on any IBM compatible
  106.            diskette, place it in a diskette mailer, and mail it to:

  113.       2.   Enclose in the diskette mailer along with the diskette,
  114.            sufficient return postage, a label with your address on it
  115.            and 2 checks or money orders, one for $10 made out to
  116.            Robert Burger and one for at least $5 made out to Tracie
  117.            Moorman for her education fund.    In case you wonder, I
  118.            require the $10 for you to become a registered user of
  119.            version 2.0 and if I'm going to do the labor of conversion,
  120.            I do require that you become a registered user of version
  121.            2.5 by making a contribution to Tracie's education fund.

  123.      Remember, the above only applies if you are an un-registered user
  124.      of version 2.0 and want your data files converted so you don't have
  125.      to re-enter the data.

  128.                      SYSOPS

  130.      Bulletin Board operators are free to distribute Video One version
  131.      2.5 regardless of whether the system is 'free' or 'pay' or
  132.      something in between.  In doing so, I only ask two things which are
  133.      similar to commercial distributors.  First, please do not
  134.      distribute the file CONFIG.DAT that is created when VIDEO_1.EXE is
  135.      run for the first time and please do distribute all of the files
  136.      listed in FILES.DOC in an unmodified form.     If you wish to
  137.      distribute additional film and performer data for Video One you are
  138.      welcome to do so (I don't know why anyone would, but you never
  139.      know) but please put it in an additional file and explain it is not
  140.      part of the Video One version 2.5 distribution in the file
  141.      description on the BBS and in a file inside the archive called
  142.      FILE_ID.DIZ which may contain up to 10 lines of no more than 45
  143.      characters each.  Also, if you have either version 1.0 or 2.0 of
  144.      Video One on your BBS, PLEASE delete it.

  149.      Anyone wishing to distribute Video One for any kind of remuneration
  150.      must contact me at the address listed above for authorization.  My
  151.      only requirements are that (1) you make it obvious to your
  152.      customers that purchasing the software from you does not benefit me
  153.      in any way and does not make them a registered user, and (2) you DO
  154.      NOT distribute the CONFIG.DAT file and do distribute the files
  155.      listed in FILES.DOC in an unmodified form.
