Since 1975, most manufacturers
have done away with what was the
conventional point/condenser dis-
tributor. The newer systems are
now all electronic distributors.
They require very little in main-
tence and have been a real factor
in better running automobiles.
They are not infallible, coils
and modules can still go kaput
but reliability is now in our
favor. The distributors have

undergone change also. Most work on
these is best left for professionals.
Good test equipment is required to test
the various components.
You should limit your inspection of
these distributors to watching that all
the sparkplug wires are in place and
seem to be in reasonably good shape (no
obvious cracks, black streaks, etc.)
Check to see the hold down screws are
tight but don't apply too much pressure
as the cap can be easily cracked.
