  12. The  system  consists  of  a   master
  13. cylinder which is a reservoir  for  a
  14. special fluid.  This brake  fluid  is
  15. routed  through  steel    lines    to
  16. cylinders at  each  wheel.    As  you
  17. press on the brake pedal, brake fluid
  18. which is not compressible moves small
  19. pistons outward which in turn  forces
  20. special  pads  against  the  rotating
  21. part of a wheel.  These pads slow and
  22. eventually will stop the vehicle. The

  26. greater pressure  you  apply  on   the
  27. pedal, the more  pressure is   exerted
  28. by the brake pads and the quicker  the
  29. vehicle will stop.                    
  30.   The brake fluid is  special  and  no
  31. substitute  should  be  used  in  your
  32. brake system.                         
  33.   Your very life could depend on it so
  34. always use brake fluid which is marked
  35. DOT-3.  Check the level each couple of
  36. months as long  as your pedal is firm.
