Next, let's find the oil dipstick.
It will be sticking up in the air
somewhere between the engine and the
radiator. It generally has a hole for
your finger. (Look at the drawing of
the dipstick). Have a paper towel in
your hand and pull the dipstick up and
out of its pipe. Wipe the end off
with the towel and reinsert it back
into the pipe. Pull it back out and
read the level of the oil. (Again,
look at the drawing). The level will
show up indicating the depth of oil in
your engine. Keep it between the two

marks indicated. Never check your oil
if you have just stopped the engine.
Wait at least 30 minutes for the oil
to drain back out of the engine into
the oil pan. If you must check it at
that time, remember there is at least
half a quart of oil in the engine and
the level is actually higher than it
shows. The best time to check oil is
in the morning or when the engine has
been stopped for several hours. You
don't have to worry about burning your
hands and the readings on the dipstick
will be accurate then.
