Title: New Mexico Scenery Enhancement
Requirements: Microsoft Flight Simulator 4.0 or later
Microsoft Aircraft and Scenery Designer
Sublogic Scenery Disk 2 and Scenery Disk 5 (recommended)
585,000 bytes of free DOS memory
Use of Sublogic's Instant Facilities Loactor is NOT recommended
Instructions: Copy all files to your Flight Simulator Directory
Start Flight Simulator
Select Menu 1
Select J (Scenery Designer)
Select 0 (Options)
Select A and enter 31200 (minimum)
Select B and enter 29000 (minimum)
Select C and enter 25
Press Enter
Press S
Press SPACEBAR
Hit CTRL-BREAK
Restart Flight Simulator
Select Auto Load from the scenery disk menu (SD-2 and SD-5
are highly recommended)
Select one of the included mode files from the Mode Menu (1,F)
If your memory limits have already been set to values greater than the ones
above and you are able to run flight simulator with scenery disks and ASD
without anamolous system behavior, you do not need to change the memory
settings.
Tips on freeing up memory - get rid of all device drivers, even the mouse
driver if you have to to get at least 590K free memory. Alternatively, you
may wish to boot from a DOS floppy to leave the maximum amount of free
memory available. DOS 3.3 is more suited than DOS 4.0 due to its smaller
code size leaving more available memory.
To temporarily disable subLOGIC's Instant Facilities Locator. Edit the
CONFIG.FS4 file in the following way:
COPY CONFIG.FS4 CONFIG.OLD
Now delete the LOCATOR.DRV line from the CONFIG.FS4 file. If at a later
date you wish to use IFL, just rename the CONFIG.OLD file back to CONFIG.FS4
Note to 386 users: If you have programs such as 386 MAX or QEMM, you can
load many drivers such as mouse drivers, cache's etc. into high memory
maximizing your total DOS memory. 286 users may be able to accomplish the
same memory freeing feat by using Quarterdeck's QRAM.
**************************************************************************
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Before running FS with these changes you must first
go to your FS directory and type the following:
DEL TXSELP.*
DEL NMALRU.*
This will remove all previous El Paso and New Mexico files from your FS
directory - this is essential to insure proper operation of the scenery.
Do not wory, everything in these files is included in the new scenery
files.

AIRPORT INFO
------------
All airports in New Mexico have been redone with "by the book" runway
lighting and NAVAIDS. All taxiways and most terminals have been
accurately depicted. VASI, REIL, etc including approach angles have all
been properly designed according to the December 1990 NOAA Airport/Facility
Directory. Use of an Albuquerque, Denver, and El Paso sectional is very
helpfull in navigating and identifying landmarks. SubLOGIC sectionals
may be used but are not reccomended due to their lack of detail and
inaccuracies. These sectionals are available at most airports or through
Sporty's Pilot Shop via mail order - current price is $5.75 each.
The following airports are accurately depicted in the various files:
NMATCS.SC1 (T or C) NMAABQ.SC1 (Albuquerque)
------------------- ------------------------
Truth or Consequences Albuquerque (International)
Socorro Albuquerque (Double Eagle)
Ruidoso Albuquerque (Coronado)

Carlsbad (White City) Edgewood (Sandia East)
Reserve Moriarty
Silver City Espanola
Silver City (Whiskey Creek) Los Alamos

Las Cruces TXAELP.SC1 (El Paso)
Roswell --------------------
Artesia El Paso International
Alamogordo El Paso (West Texas)
Deming Santa Teresa, NM

NMAHOB.SC1 (Hobbs)
------------------
Tatum

Eunice
Jal
Use APTFIX to delete all airports within the following boundries:
LOW EAST: 9200
HIGH EAST: 12000
LOW NORTH: 13300
HIGH NORTH: 15650
Note that these changes must be applied to both SD-2 and SD-5. Do not be
alarmed by the very large number of airports that this procedure finds.
Delete them all! All of the airports that still exist and several new ones
will be there. It may take quite some time to delete all of the airports as
nearly 100 runways will be deleted from the disks.
Airports with ILS's:
Albuquerque International - RWY08 - 111.9
Albuquerque Double Eagle - RWY22 - 110.1
Santa Fe County - RWY02 - 111.7
El Paso International - RWY22 - 111.5
Carlsbad Cave City - RWY03 - 111.9
Roswell Industrial - RWY21 - 109.9
Silver City - RWY26 - 111.7
Gallup - RWY06 - 111.7
Hobbs - RWY03 - 108.5
Clovis - RWY04 - 108.9
Cannon AFB - RWY04 - 108.5
Cannon AFB - RWY22 - 109.7
This is every single ILS approach in New Mexico.
SCENERY HIGHLIGHTS
------------------
The major mountain ranges in New Mexico have been added as have most bodies
of water. The cities of Albuquerque and El Paso feature very realistic
scenery including most major streets, buildings, landmarks, etc. Most other
cities also have a small amount of scenery added. For example, in Ruidoso,
NM, the famous Ruidoso downs have been added and the four corners region now
has Shiprock. I will not list all of the scenery that has been added but
leave it to you, the Computer Pilot to discover it all. If at any time, you
would like to know what a certain piece of scenery is, just drop me a line
including the coordinates on CIS and I will let you know what it is. I will,
however list a few features:
Albuquerque features include the Sandia Mountains, major streets and buildings
including Intel, Signetics, Holiday Inn Pyramid Plaza, Hyatt Regency, the PIT,
University Stadium, Coronado and Winrock Malls, Ladeira and Alameda West
Shopping Center, Albuquerque Old Town, the New Mexico State Fairgrounds,
my house, my sisters house, some of my friend's homes, golf courses,
reservoirs, etc.
El Paso scenery includes a beautifully done downtown area (thanks to David
Ackley), Chiudad Juarez, many homes and much more. Several errors regarding
NAVAIDS in the original TXSELP and NMALRU files have been corrected.
Santa Fe scenery includes Santa Fe Downs, Palace of the Governors, Santa Fe
Old Town and more.
Other cities also have special attractions - there is probably 200 hours worth
of discovery flying in the New Mexico/El Paso scenery area depicted in these
files. The sum total of all of this scenery took approximately 300 hours to
complete over a 3 month period not counting the time David spent on El Paso.
Additional features include the Rio Grande Gorge, a canyon that you can fly
through, White Sands, the Space Shuttle Landing facility at White Sands,
Trinity Site, the Very Large Array (VLA) Radio Telescope facility, and
hundreds more.
Extensive use of active scenery has been made throughout all of the regions
of New Mexico.

CAVEATS
-------
There are a few places in the scenery where the scenery will be present
but the ASD program accesses the disk drive about every 15 seconds looking for
new scenery. Unfortunately, due to inability of ASD to define square
scenery boundries this was unavoidable. There are also a couple of places that
do not fall on either SD-2 or SD-5 - they are in no-man's land. Angel Fire
is one such place. It is however still depicted in this scenery.
