- FSPASD.EXE - March 28, 1991
- (beta 1.7)
- (Non-A&SD users - FSPASD is not for you.)
-
- WHY ?...
-
- One of the initial difficulties to understanding the new A&SD kit
- by Microsoft, is getting scenery to load in the first place. We
- might get "out of memory errors" when we know darn well that we
- have as much memory as the next guy and he's out flying all of the
- best scenery coming of age. Maybe, FSPASD.EXE can help solve the
- dynamic and static scenery memory model problems that some users
- can experience.
-
- This is a little utility that searches the current directory for
- all *.SC1 and *.DY1 files and returns the LARGEST of the file
- sizes. You have the option of EDITING the MEMORY requirements or
- automatically LOADING memory based on the size required.
-
- When you get some new ASD scenery files, run FSPASD and see if you
- need to add memory to your MSFS model. If you want to EDIT to the
- maximum (to the largest files you have) then you can do it
- manually. However, why waste memory if you don't need to? When you
- want to fly a particular area, just use FSPASD to load up the
- SCENERY and off you go.
-
- The normal way to EDIT the memory models is to ...
-
- A. Load Flight Simulator and select MENU #1.
- B. Type J and then
- C. Type 0 (zero) to change the MEMORY CONFIG REQUIREMENTS
- to the numbers required to properly load the scenery, etc.
- D. Set moving dynamics to 10 or 20 as needed
- E. Press ENTER and be sure to
- F. Press <S> to save the setup.
- ESCape and CTRL+1 to exit
- G. Drop back to DOS and restart FS4 with the new memory model.
-
- You can't load your scenery until you re-load FS4. Then, and only
- then, will MSFS use the new memory model when loading.
-
-
- USING FSPASD to do it automatically...
-
- (Make sure that you have good .DY1 and .SC1 files (scenery) in
- your MSFS directory. These are the ASD file EXTENSIONS for scenery
- files.) Usually, there are 2 files with different extensions. For
- example,
-
- TXSHOU.SC1 and... TXSHOU.DY1
-
- (Sometime, you may ONLY have the STATIC (SD1) file and NOT the
- DYNAMICS file. If we do NOT find an accompanying dynamic file,
- then we leave your OLD settings for this alone when you choose to
- LOAD your memory model. That way, you are NOT left without any
- DYNAMIC memory available.)
-
- WHERE TO PUT FSPASD...
-
- Place FSPASD.EXE into the same directory where you keep
- Microsoft's Flight Simulator files. (i.e., C:\FS4)
-
- Type FSPASD and a little window will pop up with the DYNAMIC and
- STATIC memory requirements for running your largest ASD scenery
- setup. If ZEROS are returned in the window, then you either have
- FSPASD in the wrong directory or you do NOT have any ASD scenery
- files. If we can not find CONFIG.AD1, then we will END the
- program.

-
- WHAT FSPASD DOES FOR YOU...
-
- FSPASD shows you two things:
-
- --------------------
- 1. The largest ASD scenery files in your directory
-
- (Returns STATIC & DYNAMIC memory requirements for
- the biggest scenery files you have. This is a
- reference for you to use.)
- --------------------
- 2. The current settings in the CONFIG.AD1 file.
-
- (What MSFS will use as a memory model. If it's too
- small, all sorts of rotten things can go wrong.
- Hangups are common and require re-booting.)
-
- FSPASD lets you do two things:
-
- --------------------
- 1. <L>OAD - Automatically set your memory model to
- the correct size needed for your scenery. Scroll
- through all of your STATIC scenery and press
- ENTER or left mouse. FSPASD will automatically ADD
- 10% to the file sizes for overhead memory needed
- by MSFS. Without overhead, lock ups can occur,
- especially on EXIT from MSFS. In the scroll window
- we show you the ACTUAL size and +10% to use.
-
- --------------------
- 2. <E>DIT - the memory... to any numbers for
- DYNAMIC, STATIC and OBJECTS. You can choose the
- exact amount of memory you wish to allocate. You
- can browse your list of scenery files and get a
- good idea of memory required.
-
-
-
- Hope you can use FSPASD. If it helps pass it around. Leave us your
- comments on LINX.
-
- NOTE TO FS-PROers...
-
- We will be adding a menu item to access FSPASD when we complete
- several other interface features for A&SD functions. Keep in touch
- on LINX.
