Being a bit of a poker enthusiast I was expecting this game to be highly
interesting. However, it is based on a poker *machine* and is compatible
with the card game only at the acronym level.
If you like a game where you bet before seeing any cards, and if you
"win" get your money back, based purely on chance with no skill whatever
required, you'll probably sit and play this game for minutes at a time.
If I didn't know that people pay real money to do this I wouldn't post
it, but I'm sure there will be readers who love this.
Notes by gt3791a@prism.gatech.edu (submitter):
I wrote Color Poker (CPOKER) as a video poker slot machine, to be run
in color text mode (CO80), though it will also work sufficiently in
mono. It is an addictive game of chance, where the player tries to draw
the right cards, winning with poker hands. For a pair, the return is
simply the bet, for two-pair, twice the bet, and so on. The program
requires minimal system configuration (I wrote it in Turbo C, using a
T1000 with only 512K and 1 disk drive).
I have designated this program as being a SHAREWARE product, with a
suggested contribution of $15. This is explained on the title screen
of CPOKER.EXE. It's a simple program, but still quite entertaining, not
to mention as addicting as any real gambling would be, except that my
game is a little lighter on the probabilities (i.e. return bet with as
low as 1 pair), so it's easier to win.
