- Upgrade information applicable to HDMV5.3
- -----------------------------------------
- HDM now includes startup switches.
-
- To use these simply type
-
- MENU -A ─┘
-
- Where '-A' is the startup switch.
-
- Description of these switches:
- -A : This forces HDMV5 to immediately place the user at defining new pages.
- This is particularly useful when you are setting up HDMV5 for the
- first time and therefore need to define menu pages; options (applications)
- which you set up must be related to these pages. EG:
- On a page which is called DATABASES could be three applications:
-
- Menu Page Applications.
-
- DATABASES ------- Dbase III +
- Foxbase
- Paradox
-
-
- -L List all options (applications) which you have already set up in HDMV5.
- Useful if you wish to remind a user (or yourself!) of what exactly you
- already have defined (This option is of no use if you have not yet
- defined menu pages and menu options (See -A)).
-
- -D Immediately load the Disk Catalogue. Useful if the most important thing
- is the Disk Catalogue and you wish to immediately use it!
-
- -S Immediately load and run the System Information Facility, giving you
- discreet information about your computer and allowing you to configure
- HDMV5.
-
- -T Immediately load and run the Personal Task Manager. Useful if you wish
- to check the Personal Task Manager very quickly!
-
-
- Note that you can very easily use one, two or all of the switches given above
- as one command. For example, you could type
-
- MENU -t -S -d
-
- If you wished to run the Personal Task Manager, then the System Information
- Screen then the Disk Catalogue. You can enter the switches in upper or lower
- case and in any order but make sure you enter them as given above.
- Once your 'switch' command is used HDMV5 will load up in the normal way.
-
- NEW OPTION:- Command Line Variables (APPS (ALT A C))
- -------------========================================
- All applications that you store in HDMV5 can have up to 10 command lines and
- up to 50 Characters long. This is a limitation if your application has a
- command line which exceeds 50 characters. This new option gets around that
- problem by giving the user the ability to store one command (or ANYTHING) up
- to 250 characters long. Each variable is defined as $& with the number of
- the variable following it. Within HDMV5 you can have up to 99 defined
- variables.
-
- For example, have a look at the application command below:
-
- COPY C:\SYSTEM\UTILS\TESTSYS\BIGFILE.TXT F:\COMPILERS\FTRAN\SYS\NEWFILE.TXT
-
- What you could do is set up variable $&10 to be:
-
- C:\SYSTEM\UTILS\TESTSYS
-
- And, $&11 could be set up to $&11 as:
-
- F:\COMPILERS\FTRAN\SYS
-
- Therefore, the whole command line you would enter in the Application Designer
- (ALT A /(A/E)):
-
- COPY $&10\BIGFILE.TXT $&11\NEWFILE.TXT
-
- You could even set 'COPY' to be set to variable $&12, so the above command
- could be even:
-
- $&12 $&10\BIGFILE.TXT $&11\NEWFILE.TXT
-
- ---
- This is extremely useful if a certain command needs to be run before any
- application which happens to be in a subdirectory called:
-
- DATABASES\SYSAPPS\ENQUIRY\CONTRACT\USERS
-
- If the above was set to variable $&1
-
- You could simply type
-
- CD\$&1
-
- It's that easy!!!
-
-
- System information and HDMV5 configuration. (UTILS (ALT U S))
- -------------------------------------------
- System information screen upgraded; now displays discreet information about
- your VGA monitor, Print spoolers / connections, Serial Devices etc. Since
- so much is compacted the HDM configuration is split off and now includes
- Notepad Line Length, Tab sets, Swap path (*) for HDMv5, extended keyboard etc.
-
- (*) - HDMV5 automatically switches from base memory to expanded or extended
- (if you have this). If you do not, HDMV5 automatically creates Virtual
- Memory Swap files in your current directory. These files can be up to
- 200k! If you do not specify a swappath (remove the current path) HDMV5
- will not automatically remove these swap files when you have
- finished using HDMV5.
-
-
-
- Disk List of any Drive (F5)
- ---------------------------
- When using this option and displaying a list of the files on the selected
- disk drive and directory, you can now select the files that you wish to
- tag to a group (useful if you wish to MASS copy/delete/move a group of files).
- When leaving this facility by pressing ESCAPE if any files have been 'tagged'
- you will be able to copy / delete / move them to destination drive /
- directory.
-
- Run a MsDos command (F6)
- ------------------------
- Now removes blank lines from the 'Doslist' and Sorts it so that next time
- you press F6 all previously entered commands will be sorted in ascending
- order.
-
- Lockout all Keys and Blank out option (F8)
- ------------------------------------------
- When locking all the keys you with a four digit code you can also enter
- a 3 line note to whoever happens to use your computer. This could be useful
- if you are out to a meeting and therefore wish to leave on your computer
- screen a number at which you can be contacted.
-
-
-
- -----------------------======================================-----------------
- FOR FIRST TIME USERS!
- ---------------------
- If you have not already set up MENU.BAT (See README.NOW) then type HDMV5 -A
- from the DOS prompt to set up your menu pages (Doing this will also set up
- MENU.BAT anyway) - Please read your documentation on installing HDMV5. It
- is vitally important that you understand the workings of the system!!!
-
- Enjoy HDMV5!
