- ΓWhat's New in Asc2Com V2.00Γ
-
- ⌡New Interface⌡
- ⌡New Lister Type⌡
- ⌡Easier Help Screens⌡
- ⌡Price Changes⌡
-
-
- ⌠New Interface⌠
-
- This version of Asc2Com sees both a new interface (again) and
- an additional lister type that expands the range of text
- files that can be processed. Using LZW compression, the new
- Comprssed Lister can handle text files up to 120 K (perhaps
- larger if the compression is more effective) and now allows
- the Primary User much more freedom in configuring the lister
- driver itself.
-
- ⌠New Lister Type⌠
-
- All hot keys (save help) can be disabled--if you don't want
- the end user to be able to Write to File or Print the Text,
- YOU disable the command with but a minor change in the
- configuration.
-
- If the security of your text is important to you, you can
- ensure that it will take a truly major effort to obtain a
- complete copy of the text--because of the compression, a
- simple scan of the body of the program will reveal--apparent
- garbage.
-
- Other new features are 10 end user definable book marks (want
- to find a particular section for later study--set a bookmark.
- Jump back to it at any time), automatic resume (exit the
- program halfway through? Next time you start up, you're
- right back at the same spot!), mark block to print (have a
- registration form? Put it in your docs and let the user mark
- and print it), end user configurable pagination, and a DOS
- Shell.
-
- ⌠Help Screens:⌠ The help screen available under the Compressed,
- Full, and Page Listers are all configurable from within the
- main Asc2Com program. Edit your text files, placing marking
- characters where you want them either using the provided
- editor or your own favorite one. Simply run the editor from
- the Transfers section of the Asc2Com. You need never leave
- the program. All filter operations are still available
- should you need to strip Low ASCII values, replace tabs, or
- shift the left margin either to the left or the right.
-
- ⌠Price Change:⌠
-
- The down side--well, sad to say I'm forced to increase the
- Registration fee for Asc2Com. Telephone support has started
- to become a major expense and to help defray the costs, the
- new Registration fee for the 2.00 Version is ⌡$35.00⌡ for a
- commercial registration except as noted below, and ⌡$25.00⌡ for
- a private one. ΓWith the advent of the new lister and severalΓ
- Γoffers from developers, I've elected to require a royalty feeΓ
- Γfor those commercial products that use Asc2Com generatedΓ
- Γfiles AS THEIR PRIMARY MEDIUM.Γ To explain: ΓTHIS APPLIES TO
- THE PUBLICATION OF ELECTRONIC BOOKS AND MAGAZINESΓ, where
- almost if not all of the product is based upon an Asc2Com
- generated program. Royalty fees will begin at ⌡5.0%⌡ per disk
- of the disk fee, rounded up to the nearest $0.05. All
- registrations requiring royalties will need to be negotiated
- on a case by case basis, so contact MorganSoft either by
- phone or by letter with your proposal.
-
- Please note that I do not consider disk vendors to come under
- the definition of Electronic Books or Magazines: Disk
- Vendors do NOT have to pay a royalty fee.
-
- I'm offering to all those who Γorder by Aug. 1, 1992,Γ
- Commercial (of the non-royalty fee type) and Private
- registrations Γat the old feeΓ--so get in now and save a bit of
- money. The new prices will go into effect for everyone, Aug.
- 1, 1992.
-
- I want to thank all of you who over the last two years have
- sent in such kind remarks and smart suggestions for the
- improvement of the program. Your support has been truly
- amazing and thoroughly gratifying. Thanks again.
