  1.                         SKYWRITER: The Story

  5.               (writing reports is . . ) THE   BAD  GUY:
  6.    Do you have to write reports on your activities?  Do you dislike
  7. writing reports on your activities?  The answer is, "Yes," for
  8. countless occupations, including doctors, pilots, social workers,
  9. interviewers, quality controllers, bankers and salespersons.  The
  10. list goes on and on.

  12.                    MENTION  THE  HERO (SkyWriter):
  13.     The SkyWriter is a new writing method designed for these "Yes"
  14. people, by brain researcher James J. Keene, Ph.D., and his wife,
  15. psychiatrist Nilda M. Keene, M.D.

  17.                         THE  PLOT  THICKENS:
  18.     Consider the problem.  Taking notes during the activity can slow
  19. you down and distract you from the task at hand.  So the solution is
  20. word-processing, right?  Wrong.  Word-processing has the same
  21. problems as taking notes, and numerous keystrokes and training are
  22. also required.  Besides, who can operate a computer while doing their
  23. normal work activity?

  25.                     OUR  HERO  FINALLY  ARRIVES:
  26.     Enter the SkyWriter, which replaces the normal two step process:
  27. do the job, then write the report.  SkyWriter lets you write your
  28. report while you do the job, saving both time and money.  When you
  29. finish a work activity, the report is also done at the same time.

  33.     How does it work?  SkyWriter runs on personal computers and
  34. requires only a few minutes of training.  The key is that single
  35. keystrokes (or mouse clicks) cause whole sentences or paragraphs to
  36. be written.

  38. to see it to really understand it.  The same was true when
  39. word-processing was introduced several decades ago."
  40.     In one application, psychiatrists use SkyWriter to produce the
  41. written psychiatric evaluation of a patient during the interview of
  42. the patient.

  45.     "When one of our psychiatrist users had a computer hardware
  46. problem," Keene said, "he simply closed his office until the problem
  47. was fixed, rather then go back to the old, inefficient method of note
  48. taking.  Of course, word-processing during a psychiatric interview
  49. was not possible." 
  50.     "This shows the quantum leap in efficiency," Keene added.  "A
  51. stock broker may simply go home if the phones are out.  Similarly,
  52. after you use SkyWriter, it's hard to imagine working without it."

  55.     Another psychiatrist discovered a further advantage of the
  56. SkyWriter method.  It can generate confidence among clients.  One day
  57. a patient showed up with his lawyer.  They needed a written
  58. psychiatric evaluation for a court appearance in one hour.  No other
  59. psychiatrist in the city could do it.  In less than that time,
  60. however, the SkyWriter user was able to provide a perfectly typed,
  61. fully complete evaluation.
