KEYBOARD Problems
─────────────────
If you encounter problems when you hit a key after running PE, you probably
have a BIOS without "extended" keyboard services.
You should start PE with the -kx option using "PE -kx"; then save the
configuration file (Esc O S S) in order to update the PE defaults. This
will prevent you going on using the -kx option later.
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────

WARNING
───────
Since 4 years, PE is permanently improved to fit most of your needs.
There is no "PE.DOC" file, but you may find all PE instructions by
consulting the HISTORY.DOC file, the PE help (Alt-H) and the PETCERR.C
file.
All REGISTERED users will get a technical support directly from me.
All users may send me their advise on the PE product : Be critical, but ...
don't ask me the moon itself !
The goal of PE is to give you a powerful, easy to use, speedy text editor
which can fit ALL of your needs, without distinction for the language
you use.
PE has not many bugs, but !!!? I repeat this message : Please contact me
to submit all of your remarks (especially when you find bugs !).
I am actually working on the 2.00.00 version which will allow texts of
any length.
There are in this ZIP file 2 versions of PE : PE itself and PT which is
the Tiny version of an old PE for use into RAM-Hungry packages (As DBaseIV
or FoxPro 1.xx).
I developped 2 other versions of PE :
- PET which is a "terminal" version of PE which only uses ANSI compatible
sequences and (Slow!) BIOS calls to access the screen and the keyboard.
- PEU which is a "SCO UNIX tm" version of PE (EXACTLY the same features)
which is not fully operationnal because of the lack of demand (!).
So ... ask it to me !!!

PE is made by Yves GELTMEYER. (c)1988,89,90,91,92

PE.EXE Standard PE editor.
PE.CFG Standard PE configuration file.
PE.HLP PE help file.
PE.KEY Standard keyboard template of default macros used in PE.
PE.SCR Screen image and Dos command file executed by the function
"Boss arrives".
PECFG.EXE This program configures the keys on non-standard keyboard
and/or keyboard drivers for use with PE. It also allows you
to define the Bios Type of your machine.
Simply enter PECFG PE or PECFG PT to update the PE.CFG
or PT.CFG Configuration files. The program displays all
special keys and allow user to modify them. When the new
configuration file is saved, the old file is renamed with
the ".OLD" extension.
When finished, PECFG checks the keyboard codes for
redundancies and eventually creates an error file
PECFG.TXT. When redundancies occurs, use the PECFG program
to "Nullify" (suppress) all but one of the redundant keys.
PECFG is self explained, run the program to get an help
about the available options.
In order to convert all the keyboard configuration changes to
the macros, you must perform the "Import" option of the PE
"Play and Manage Macros" command (MENU E M P).
The good way to use PECFG is :
1) Export your current macros (MENU M A E).
2) Exit PE and run PECFG PE.
3) Re-enter PE and Import the macro previously
exported (MENU M A I).
HISTORY1.DOC
HISTORY2.DOC Contains explanations about each PE modification. Some of them
are better explained in these files than in the PE help file.
HISTORY?.DOC reflects allways the latest changes in PE.
PE.MAC Source of standard macros defining the default PE interface.
PEGREP.BAT Performs a multiple search in text files, an then launch PE
in error browse mode in order to view and/or edit all the
occurences found. This batch file needs the Borland's GREP
program. You may also use the SEARCH.EXE program made by the
same author (me !). SEARCH is directly PE compatible and is
available apart.
PEPURGE.BAT Clean all PE backup files except the last version.
PETCERR.C
PETCERR.EXE Source and executable files used in conjunction with the PE
Error Mode. This program converts Turbo C 1.5, 2.0 and
Turbo C++ 1.0 error messages into a PE compatible Error file.
Please consult the PETCERR.C file for more explanations.
PEMSCERR.C
PEMSCERR.EXE Source and executable files used in conjunction with the PE
Error Mode. This program converts Microsoft C 5.0 and 5.1
error messages into a PE compatible Error file.
Please consult the PEMSCERR.C file for more explanations.
PEGREPER.C
PEGREPER.EXE Source and executable files used in conjunction with the PE
Error Mode. This program converts Borland's GREP 3.0 strings
into a PE compatible Error file. GREP must be used with "-on"
options.
Please consult the PEGREPER.C file for more explanations.
*.HP
LPRINT.EXE Text files printing program used by the PE print functions.
This program may be used stand alone. The ".HP" files are
escape codes sequences for use with an HP LaserJet.
WIPE.EXE File eraser used by PEPURGE.BAT
