  4.         HyperRez uses angle brackets and ASCII files for these reasons:

  6. Easy .......... Requires only a word processor <link13> to create hypertext
  7.                 knowledge systems -- and jumps are traceable in printed files.

  9. Compatible .... Most classes of software easily retrieve and use information

  12. Universality .. With requirements, policies, procedures, descriptions,
  13.                 specifications, laws, or diagnostics, textual representations
  14.                 of ideas occur 10,000 times more frequently than do graphical
  15.                 representations.  HyperRez is designed for showing the
  16.                 organization of textual knowledge.  <link37>

  18. Speed ......... In construction speed, manual techniques can achieve rates
  19.                 of 200 files and 500 links per day compared to the maximum
  20.                 of five screens per day with graphical hypertext.  With
  21.                 automatic abstracting software, construction rates are
  22.                 magnitudes higher.  For example, I once built 50,000 hypertext
