  1.                    DATAMAGE SHAREWARE DISTRIBUTION

  4. DATAMAGE  is  distributed  as SHAREWARE.  I  don't  know  why  others
  5. provide  their  software  as shareware but, in my  case,  it's  about
  6. desperation  and having no money in the  denomination  (approximately
  7. $250,000.00)  to  market the system in the normal  manner.   Pervious
  8. versions  were  limited  to 300 or 800 records.  This  is  the  first
  9. shareware DATAMAGE release to be distributed in it's entirety.

  11. You  may have downloaded this system from a computer  bulletin  board
  12. but  it  is more likely that you have paid a little money to  a  disk
  13. vendor  to  acquire your copy.  NONE of the amount remitted  to  said
  14. SHAREWARE  vendor  or  BBS came to me.  As of now you  have  paid  me
  15. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.  ZIP.  ZILCH.  ZERO.  NADA.  (and so on....)

  17. The DATAMAGE system is COPYRIGHTED software, and is thereby protected
  18. by the laws of the United States.  I am the sole author/owner of  the
  19. system,  and this gives me the right to dictate who may use  it,  for
  20. how  long,  wearing  what color socks etc.  The  development  of  the
  21. system  has  taken, quite literally, six years.  This is NOT  a  free
  22. program, but you may try it for a specified period before buying it.

  24. You are granted a temporary license to use DATAMAGE on a trial  basis
  25. for  a period not to exceed 90 days.  This period starts at the  time
  26. of the installation of the system on your computer.  You may evaluate
  27. DATAMAGE  during  this  period.   If you chose  to  continue  to  use
  28. DATAMAGE after the 90 day trial period you MUST register the program.
  29. That means you must PAY for it.

  33. WHY SHOULD I REGISTER?
  34.  
  35. Literally  thousands (if not millions!) of hours have been  spent  on
  36. the  design,  implementation and debugging of  the  DATAMAGE  system.
  37. Many  of the bugs found/fixed have been reported by  DATAMAGE  users.
  38. Despite my best efforts the programs you have received may contain  a
  39. bug  or two.  By registering the system you will receive  the  latest
  40. version of the programs, with any bugs reported (or found) corrected.

  42. DATAMAGE  is continually being improved.  Don't be surprised to  find
  43. that  the version you receive when you register has more options,  is
  44. more  powerful.  At the time of this writing (06-11-91) there  is  no
  45. difference in the registered and the shareware versions.  I can't say
  46. just when the system will be upgraded, but I receive suggestions from
  47. my  3,000+  registered  users  frequently,  and  some  of  them   are
  48. incorporated into the system along with my ideas as they occur.

  50. The  above  situation also applies to  the  documentation.   DATAMAGE
  51. users  have been known (are encouraged to) critique the docs and  on-
  52. screen  help files, and their feedback is usually  incorporated  into
  53. same.  When you register you will be furnished with a printed  manual
  54. and  any updated help files.  Any upgrades to the  documentation  and
  55. help files will be included therein.

  57. Registration also brings you the opportunity to upgrade your  system.
  58. The  next version of DATAMAGE will have multi-user capability -  this
  59. means  that  you  will  be  able to run the  system  on  a  LAN.   By
  60. registering your DATAMAGE you will place yourself in MY datafile  and
  61. you  will  receive  written notice  when  updates  become  available.
  62. Updates are usually $10, and NEVER more than $40.

  65. And,  finally,  there's this (purposely) irritating  and  long-winded
  66. screen  that  you  have  to wait through every  time  you  start  the
  67. APPLICATION MAKER program.  Wouldn't you like to be RID of it?

  69. Simply  copy  the REGISTER.TXT file (found in your  \MAGE  directory)
  70. to  your printer (enter: CD\MAGE, then COPY REGISTER.TXT LPT1),  fill
  71. it out and send it to me along with a money order for $80 U.S.  funds
  72. and  I will send you a registered version that does NOT display  this
  73. screen, and I will even personalize it with your name and address!

  75. I  offer  a $1,000.00 reward to anyone who informs me of a  user  who
  76. violates my copyright.  This reward is available ONLY after I collect
  77. a judgment of at least $1,000.00, and I guarantee your anonymity.   I
  78. would also be quite likely to pay someone who reports to me a program
  79. that copies the DATAMAGE, again after I collect a judgment.

  82. documentation  or on-screen help (PLEASE try!), wish to  report  what
  83. you  think may be a bug (PLEASE do!) or have been fired and  wish  to

  86. This is also the first version of DATAMAGE that includes my telephone
  87. number  - I hope it is not abused.  Calls before 12:00 noon or  after
  88. 8:00  p.m.  (central  standard  time) will  be  considered  RUDE  and
  89. INCONSIDERATE,  and I am quite likely to respond in kind.  I  program
  90. into  the  wee  hours  (so I sleep late) and  I  CAN  NOT  deal  with
  91. answering the phone after 8:00 p.m. as I will be programming.
