- length, page width, top margin, left margin, maximum
- column width.
-
- ∞ [ABORT] - aborts the list command.
- ~
- LIST:DESIGN
- ∞ Page Width - number of spaces in a line. This will
- depend on the printer setting. For example: If the paper
- size is 8.5 x 11, the orientation is Portrait, and the
- pitch is 10 cpm, the maximum number of characters per line
- is 80. You may then specify a page width of 80 or less.
-
- If the fields cannot be accommodated in the specified page
- width, ADBROWSE will organize the database into one or
- more horizontal pages.
-
- ∞ Page Length - number of lines in a page. This will
- depend on the printer setting. For example: If the paper
- size is 8.5 x 11, the orientation is Portrait, and the
- lines-per-inch setting is 6, the maximum number of lines
- per page is 66. ADBROWSE will send a page break every 66
- lines. Each new page will have its own column headings.
-
- Specify a high number, like 999999, if you do not want any
- page breaks.
-
- ∞ Top Margin - number of blank lines to preceed the column
- titles.
-
- ∞ Left Margin - number of spaces added to the left of a
- line.
-
- ∞ Bottom Margin - number of blank lines at the bottom of
- every page.
-
- ∞ Max Column Width - maximum number of spaces allocated for
- long character and memo fields. It defaults to Page Width
- less Left Margin less Right Margin. That is also the
- maximum value allowed.
- ~
- NEXTLIST
- Select from the picklist of currently open databases the one you

-
- You may select with the by clicking with the left button the
- name of the database you want to make the current database. You
- may also click any of the options in the bottom menu.
- ~
- EXIT
- Select [YES] to leave ADBROWSE and exit to DOS.
- Select [NO] to return to ADBROWSE.
-
- If you want to display another open database, press [F2] or
- [ALT-F2] while browsing the current database.
- ~
- HELP
- ADBROWSE has four HELP keys:
-
- ∞ [F1] - displays a context-sensitive Help screen.
- ∞ [SHIFT-F1] - displays a Help screen that describes the
- use the current user-interface, e.g., "Using a Picklist",
- "Viewing A Database", etc.
- ∞ [CTRL-F1] - displays a picklist of Help screens.
- ∞ [ALT-F1] - displays this "Using HELP" screen.
-
- When viewing a Help screen, the following keys may be used
- to scroll it:
-
- ∞ [DOWN] - scrolls one line down.
- ∞ [UP] - scrolls one line up.
- ∞ [PGDN] - scrolls one screen down.
- ∞ [PGUP] - scrolls one screen up.
- ∞ [ESC] - closes the Help screen.

- OVERVIEW
- ADBROWSE is a database browse utility written in Clipper 5.01.
- The intended users are Clipper programmers and database users.
-
- ADBROWSE automatically detects the video type and behaves
- accordingly. But if you are using a laptop and you want to
- force B&W, use this command line: ADBROWSE MONO.
-
- This current version has the following features:
-
- √ Mouse-supported.
-
- √ Loads any number of databases allowed by your computer
- system configuration. If you are loading a large number
- of databases, use this command line: ADBROWSE //F:xx,
- where xx is the number of DOS file handles to be made
- available to ADBROWSE.
-
- √ Allows you to switch from one open database to another
- with one keypress.
-
- √ Does the following index functions: Create, Open, Close,
- Set Master, and Reindex while on Browse mode.
-
- √ Lists a database into the printer or a text file. Allows
- you to select the fields to include. Allows you also to
- define such report parameters as pagelength, pagewidth,
- margins and maximum column width.
-
-
- I intend to expand ADBROWSE's capabilities. Work is already
- being done to add more features, such as:
-
- √ Create and edit databases.
-
- √ Modify the browse image by rotating column positions,
- hiding and unhiding columns, changing column widths,
- freezing columns, and adding calculated field columns.
-
- √ A query feature.
-
- √ A search feature.
-
- √ Ability to establish relations between databases.
-
- √ Restructure a database.
-
- √ A pseudo command dialect.
-
- If you care to suggest on which feature I should work on next,
- or if you have any comment about ADBROWSE, please send them to
- this address:

-
- If there is enough interest from Clipper programmers, I may
- publish the function library that I used to create ADBROWSE
- and other systems. Right now, this library contains more
- than a hundred functions and pseudo functions. All user-
- interface functions are configurable and mouse-supported. Some
- are already documented and many are not.
- ~
- NODBF
-
-
-
-
-
- There are no databases in the current
- directory. Try changing directory, then
- run the program again.
-
- In a future release, a DATABASE CREATE
- option will be available.
-
- ~
- WELCOME
- Thank you for trying ADBROWSE. This elegant utility is very
- friendly. The user-interface screens have been carefully
- designed to be as intuitive as possible. If you occasionally
- get confused as to what to do, there are four Help keys that you
- may press to obtain assistance:
-
- ∞ [F1] - displays a context-sensitive Help screen.
-
- ∞ [SHIFT-F1] - displays a Help screen that describes the use
- of the current user-interface, e.g., "Using a Picklist",
- "Viewing A Database", etc.
-
- ∞ [CTRL-F1] - displays a picklist of Help screens, one of
- which, "OVERVIEW", enumerates ADBROWSE's features.
- Another, "README.AD" displays the file of the same name.
-
- ∞ [ALT-F1] - displays a "Using HELP" screen.
-
- I believe that these screens, and the README.AD file, are the
- only documentation you may need to read in order to fully
- utilize ADBROWSE.
-
- You need not read this Welcome Note again. Delete WELCOME.AD
- from the ADBROWSE directory.
-
- Enjoy! - The ADBROWSE author.
