ZERO4ROM
( The zero byte file-maker for CD-Roms! )
INTRODUCTION:
This program simply makes the zero (0) byte files needed by WildCat! if you
want the files to be found on a file mask search. Since the current utility
provided with your BBS doesn't support most of the rom discs out there, I
decided to make a utility that would create them.
I know there are a few of them out there, so why this one? Well, ZERO4ROM
will use your ALLFILES.DAT file to create the files. I also found that
the disc I had didn't show all the files in the listing that were actually on
the disc. Although there are other 0 byte utilities out there, I found most
just create files for whatever exists in the cd-rom directory.
It's not really a problem, or is it? In any case, I prefer to only have
down-loadable files in my directories. As long as the 'On CD flag' is set,
the file will be created in it's proper location. ZERO4ROM will also allow
you to direct all the 0 byte files to a directory of your choosing.
I have also found that if you move a file from one area to another, the 0 byte
file isn't moved. "Can't move what doesn't really exist!"
USAGE:
After you have used WCFILE to add your CD files to the database, and have
reset the file area path to point at the hard drive, you are ready to use
ZERO4ROM.
ZERO4ROM does NOT have to be in the WC home directory. As long as you are
in the directory where ZERO4ROM resides, or it is in the DOS PATH, there
should be no problems.
At the DOS prompt ( C:\> ), enter either:
ZERO4ROM
or
ZERO4ROM C:\WC30 C:\WC30\FILES\CDROM
^^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^ ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
(1) (2) (3)
(1) The first is obviously the executable.
(2) The second is your WC home directory. NOTE: Include the '\' as shown.
(3) The third is an alternate directory. This is used in case you want to
place all the 0 byte files in one location. This directory will over-
ride the main directory for the chosen file areas.
Once you have confirmed the directory information, your file areas will be
displayed by there titles. The HOME, END, PGUP, PGDN, and cursor keys are
all functional. Select/de-select areas as follows:
Alt T - Tag all areas.
Alt U - UNtag all areas.
SPACE BAR - Tag area where the highlight bar resides.
Tagged areas will have the ∙ placed in the ( ) to show it has been selected.
(∙) Games (∙) Windows files
( ) Comm programs -> ( )
(∙) Archiving programs | (∙) WildCat utilities
-----------------------------------------
|
Your file areas will be displayed exactly the way they appear in MakeWild. |
|
NOTE: If a position was skipped in MakeWild, it will not be selectable in ---
ZERO4ROM.
Once you have selected all the areas you wish to process, press the F10
function key. A window will pop-up showing you the file names scanned and
also the ones which were created. A status bar shows the progress of the
processing.

THIS N' THAT:
I have run this through DESQview while users have been on the system and
have experienced no problems whatsoever. I open all WildCat! datafiles in
a 'shared' mode, so the system does not have to be off-line to run this
program. This was done with the 10 line version.
The current limitation is the number of file areas it can handle. I currently
have it hard-coded for 400 areas maximum. This should be sufficient, but I
will continue to work on this to reach the 1000 file area capability.
CLOSURE:
This version is being distributed as 'donation ware'. If you feel this utility
has any worth to you, and you would like to send me a donation, please leave me
a message on the WildCat! HQ BBS. I am currently moving from Fairfield, Ca. to
Macon, Georgia, so my address will be unknown for a short while. I will post a
general message on WildCat! HQ BBS once I have a new address.
DISCLAIMER:
Although I have had extremely successful operation out of ZERO4ROM, I cannot,
and do not, accept any responsibilty for any harm which may result out of your
use/misuse of this program.
COMING UTILITIES:
I have plans to work on a utility which will allow the re-arranging of both the
file and message base areas.
Look for this in the 1st quarter of 92'.
