Version 1.08 Public release April, 24 1992
Written and (C) 1991, 1992 by Fons Cornelissens, 2:29/430.2@fidonet.org
INTRO
WHOTO is a utility designed to scan the RA/QuickBBS (Hudson-type
messagebase *.BBS) and produce a report (to screen, file or as a
Fidonet compatible Netmail-message) of unread messages in the
messagebase.
REQUIREMENTS
- An IBM PC compatible computer
- MS-DOS or PC-DOS 3.2 or above
- A Hercules/CGA/EGA/VGA compatible color/mono display
- A RemoteAccess/QuickBBS (Hudson *.BBS) compatible messagebase
FILES
The WHOTO??? archive contains the following files:
- WHOTO.EXE : The executable program file
- WHOTO.CFG : A sample configuration file
- WHOTO.DOC : This document
- WHOTO.REL : Release-notes
WHOTO reads information from from following files:
- WHOTO.CFG : Configuration file containing all keywords, path- and
file-definitions. Edit this file to your own needs.
- one (1) of the following files :
- AREAS.BBS : Echo-names and RA/QBBS-board numbers
- FOLDER.SYS : FrontDoor folder definition file
- AREAFILE.FD : TosScan Area definition file
(you have to define only 1 in WHOTO.CFG, is doesn't harm to define
them all three in WHOTO.CFG, but the one that is defined last, is
the one that will be used.)
For those of you using another type of area-definition, not yet
supported by WhoTo, I will be glad to incorporate other structures
if needed. Just mail me the exact structure or a sample definition file
and I'll try to add support for it as soon as possible.
- MSGHDR.BBS : RA/QBBS message base header file
- LASTREAD.BBS : RA/QBBS lastread pointer-file
- MSGTXT.BBS : RA/QBBS message base text file
A Fidonet-compatible *.MSG netmail-directory containing the LASTREAD-file
These files can be placed in different directories or have other names,
it's up to you to define them in the WHOTO.CFG configuration file.
INSTALLATION
1. Choose or create a directory for WHOTO
2. Copy WHOTO*.* to this directory
3. Edit the WHOTO.CFG file for your specific setup
4. Run WHOTO
COMMANDLINE PARAMETERS
Syntax : WHOTO [/C:Configurationfile] [/O:Outputfile]
default configuration-file : WHOTO.CFG
default outputfile : WHOTO.TXT
CONFIGURATION
WHOTO is fully configurable from a single text configuration file
(WHOTO.CFG).
In the CFG-file, a semicolon (;) first on the line makes it a comment,
resulting in the line being ignored by the CFG-reader.
All other lines in the CFG-file read as "keywords", usually with one or
more parameters. See the example WHOTO.CFG file for specific info on
the various keywords.
