UserEd Release history:-
v2.10 New features:
■ Support for RA 1.10.
■ New sort options:
Surname, surname & security or first name & security.
■ DOS Shell, Alt J from almost anywhere. Overhead is
about 1.5K since UserEd will swap to XMS, EMS or disk.
■ Post a message file to user(s), Alt M.
Edit and post message to user(s), Alt E.
RA message base locking is observed with multiline
systems.
■ Highlighting new users that are marked in green now
causes them to flash so that it is obvious which are
marked.
■ Users who are marked do not have the marked status
cleared automatically any more, you will be prompted to
remove the marked status where applicable.
■ UserEd will now search a second questionnaire file if
one has been defined in the setup menu.
■ Registration and support in the Netherlands. Contact
either Henk van.de.weerdt (2:283/203) or Peter Lindeman
(2:283/216). They also have the documentation and help
files available in Dutch.
fixes:
■ I noticed some faults in the initialise routine and one
in the sort routine (again!) such that everytime a sort
was performed, the last user in the file would be
missed and not rewritten to the output file.
■ I introduced a bug in 2.02 such that with large
USERS.BBS files, command line operations would not work
and failed with a runtime error 202.
■ When performing command line processing, the screen
could be overwritten creating a messy display, a clear
screen has been added at an appropriate point.
v2.02 No new features I'm afraid, just making the old ones
work.
Cured the annoying bug introduced in 2.01 Initialise
routine which caused the sort routines to get screwed
up. Both Sort by Name and Sort by Security are now
fixed. Such is progress!
A couple of the fields generated by the USERS.BBS to
CSV file were not correctly produced, the spurious "
marks have now been removed from the two fields before
the users handle.
When revoking a users priviledge, UserEd would
sometimes refuse to do this correctly, this should now
work as intended.
I found a pointer pointing to an uninitialised bit of
memory and it is at the correct place to be causing
PC's to hang as has been reported. Trouble is I can't
guarantee to reproduce the problem but I'm pretty sure
that I have fixed the PC hanging problem.
v2.01 All features available to unpaid users, UserEd is not
free however, if you use it you should register by
taking the time and sending the money. I spent time
writing it for you!
Don't know where it crept in but unless you already had
a valid USERED.CFG then USERED wouldn't initialise and
gave error 103 (no wonder no one had bothered to reg!!)
Fixed a problem where the command line parameters were
not being parsed correctly. Multiple commands didn't
always work.
Added extra width to the questionaire window to avoid
wraparound and loss of the username.
Put the flags on a separate line in USERS.DEL to make
things a little easier to read.
Changed the Initialise code to reduce the USERS.BBS
load time.
Cured a very minor bug which caused corruption of the
screen if you started speed search but then pressed ESC
v2.00A 27/2/91 Fixed the incorrect colour changes when upgrading/down
grading users.
Previous versions when packing the user file would look
for a second USERS.BBS in the directory specified in
the bank data file path. This was a hangover from the
early days when UserEd could handle 2 USERS.BBS's. This
problem would cause a runtime error 103 when returning
from the pack.
v2.00 25/2/91 !!!IMPORTANT!!!
The data structure has changed slightly for the USERED
access definitions file (USERED.DEF), please run the
upgrade program 106TO200 first.
Support for RA 1.00 and RATS 1.00. Minor bug fix to
correct the problem of not being able to change the
DataPhone number.
Support has been dropped for QBBS. Even though the
docs still relate to QBBS, it is no longer supported in
the code. I just couldn't be bothered to update the
instructions.
The questionnaire search key has changed from Ctrl Q to
Alt Q. My modem was passing XON/XOFF through and kept
popping up the questionnaire when using UsrEd remotely!
Many attempts at changing the modem failed so change
the software instead!
New feature:
When users are packed, a file is created called
USERS.DEL which is appended to from then on. This file
contains the date and time of deletion, the username,
the security level and the flag settings so that you
may re-instate a user to their previous level.
Support has been added for the Group field in the user
record. Even though this duplicates the concept of
UsrEd somewhat, at least now, "Group 32" can appear
in your listings as "IBM PC User" or something like
that! You can use the Mark key (space) to select a
group of users in the normal way and assign them to a
group in just the same was as you can assign security
levels.
Please note that when setting up a group, you should
set security to 0 and no flag settings. If you set any
security or flags along with a group number then only
the group number for a user will be updated.
What used to be the second BBS path in Setup menu has
now changed functionality. It is now used to identify
a different path to a timebank data file.
v1.06 3/7/90 Now works better with multiple lines on RA. Previous
versions would cause file sharing problems with
SHARE.EXE loaded when running under DesqView or
similar. UserEd and RA should both now be able to use
USERS.BBS at the same time.
Please note: I have not implemented record locking. I
have only changed the mode of file opening so that RA
can also open the file and vice versa. It is up to you
to ensure that you are not modifying details of the
same user as they modify their settings. Having said
that, UserEd, when viewing misc. details does seek to
the required record so the details displayed are the
most up to date. When saving details, the record is
also immediately written to disk. Also, UserEd does
only modify details and write back to the same record
in the file so modifying some details won't cause
problems. Editing any other user should cause no
problems.
When a mouse driver was loaded, UserEd would appear to
hang. It was actually stuck in a mouse down loop due
to a WORD being where an INTEGER should have been.
Blame the people who asked for support of 64000's as I
was lazy and performed a global replace for integers to
words :-).
The following sequence would cause screen corruption at
the top of the misc. details screen:- F1, search for a
non existant user, then press [Enter]. Just a
misguided pointer, it has now had therapy and promises
not to cause any more trouble.
Now changed the structure of the RAT bank details to
support 0.06 onwards. Please note that you will not be
able to use a previous version. Also, UserEd will only
read the extra information, it will not allow you to
view or change the details above 65535 minutes. I may
be wrong but I feel that it was pointless to add
support for the amount of time that has been given.
65535 minutes amounts to 45 days - who is going to use
that amount as it is?
v1.05B 10/6/90 Fixed bug introduced in 1.05. If a bank wasn't in use
then the bottom of the misc. details screen got
corrupted. No harm caused, just messed up screen
display.
v1.05 6/6/90 Added support for extra time bank systems. UserEd now
supports AlfaBank, Hambank and RATS. There is no
configuration needed. If UserEd can find the
appropriate data file then it will be used. If UserEd
finds more than one then only one will be used but I
think you should reconsider your setup!
v1.04 14/5/90 The format of the USERED.CFG file has changed, please
run CONV3TO4 or delete the .cfg file and re-enter your
details.
You can now choose the path and filename of your
questionnaire file, instead of UserEd always using
NEWUSER.ASW.
Contrary to the UserEd philosphy, it is now possible to
edit a users flags! This option is only available when
registered however as I am trying to encourage you to
re-think flag methods. Alt F from the user selection
screen will pop the window up.
There is a maintenance option to delete users who have
a security level equal to or less than n.
Sound on/off is now in setup.
The Integers have been replaced by Words so that
RemoteAccess users can now access the full security
range possible.
The Reports, Help and Maintenance menus have been
turned into an overlay file to save memory. This
overlay will attempt to load into EMS and be swapped
from there if EMS is available, otherwise it will be
loaded from disk.
You can now printout the users miscellaneous details
with Alt F10.
UserEd remote mode now determines the name of the log
file to which it should write. When in QuickBBS mode,
SYSTEM.LOG is written to, when in RemoteAccess mode,
the name of the log file is obtained from CONFIG.RA.
In both cases, the log file in the current directory is
written to.
Most of the maintenance options can now be run from the
command line. Type USERED HELP for details.
Screen length added to the misc details screen. This
was an accidental omission.
The users call count is now editable in misc details.
The colours have been changed to suit mono screens
better. No change to colour screens.
v1.03 11/4/90 I have replaced PATHS.DAT by allowing entry of the
system log files in the setup menu. This should avoid
confusion over the use of the second BBS path.
Please note that v1.03 USERED.CFG is a different format
and is not compatible with previous UserEd
configuration files. The only consequences however,
are strange entries in the log file fields!
When scanning for duplicate users, the scan no longer
reports the same pair of users but reversed. ie.
instead of reporting that "John Smith has the same
password as Fred Bloggs" and "Fred Bloggs has the same
password as John Smith", UserEd now only reports the
first case which is sufficient.
v1.02 6/4/90 UserEd previously assumed that if the BBS in use was
RA then Lastread pointers would be assumed. My RA test
setup seems to run like this but I am told that RA
doesn't use them. UserEd now works as follows:-
QBBS - read CONFIG.BBS and determines if lastread
pointers are used.
RA - Try to use lastread pointers, if the file doesn't
exist then carry on anyway. That should suit most
people!
Extra feature added. As multiple RA boards have
multiple log files, a file called PATHS.DAT should be
set up with the complete path and file name of any log
files to be searched. If PATHS.DAT doesn't exist then
UserEd will try to open SYSTEM.LOG in the 1st BBS
directory as defined in the setup menu.
v1.01 31/3/90 Minor fix to avoid "Unable to find CONFIG.BBS message
on first use.
v1.00 28/3/90 First general release.
