Documentation to Whale Chat version 1.00
OPUS(tm) 1.1x and 1.7x support
(c) 1991 Whale Software & Martin Walfisz

License information
Whale Chat is a ShareWare program. It may be used for an
evaluation time of one month. If you after that time don't
register Whale Chat, you must stop using this Sowftare.
You register by sending a SNAIL-mail to Whale Software
(address further down) were you write your Name, address,
BBS name, OPUS version, Phonenumbers: Voice and BBS,
Fido-Net address and any other info you want me to know.
DO NOT ADD MONEY!
When I recieve your Registration request I will phone you
(voice) and you will be allowed to call my BBS and down-
load a registered version.
____________
Installation
To install the program just run the BATCH-file INSTALL.BAT
or unpack WCHAT100.ZIP to a <directory>. The file WCMUSIC.ZIP,
included in the package, contains 40 music-files. I suggest
that you make a directory for those files (if you run INSTALL,
it will make all directories itself).
Now you start WCHAT.EXE with the parameter SETUP:
C:\OPUS\WCHAT> WCHAT SETUP <enter>
Then you will see a setup-screen. Move around with the
cursor and edit everything to your OPUS setup.
NOTE: You must press ENTER, not ESCAPE, after every edited
line, else the Setup won't notice the change.
NOTE: The string NoAnswer-file must NOT contain any file-
extensions. Whale Chat adds them itself depending on
the Video-mode the user has.
OK, now all you have to do is to install Whale Chat as a
menu-choice in OPUS (consult your OPUS manual for help on
that).
__________
Parameters
Currently there are two parameters that Whale Chat will
understand. The first is "SETUP" and you use it when you
configure Whale Chat.
The second is "QUICK" and it means that Whale Chat should
start the Chat-mode directly, i.e. not start the Yell-sound.
It is useful to use when you want to start Whale Chat from
a F##.BBS file in OPUS.
___________
Music-files
The music-files are compiled file and contain all tunes that
Whale Chat can use.
if you want to make your own tunes, you should use the WCMC
program included in this package. A create a text-file wich
you compile with WCMC like:
C:\OPUS\WCHAT> WCMC <text-file> <compile out-file>
The text-file must have the following structure to work:
;
; This is a commented line ( = line starts with ";")
;
; Commands to use :
; TONE <hertz/10> <ms/10>
; WAIT <ms/10>
;
TONE 902 23
TONE 676 23
TONE 602 23
WAIT 46
TONE 602 11
TONE 506 23
TONE 758 23
TONE 676 46
WAIT 46
TONE 338 11
;
; more comments.
;
The figures after the TONE and WAIT commands are divided with
10, i.e. if you want to play the Hz-tone 6780 in one second
you write: "TONE 678 100" .
If you want to listen to compiled music-files, use the
WCPLAY program like:
C:\OPUS\WCHAT> WCPLAY <compiled file to play>
______________
NoAnswer-files
These files are shown when you don't answer the Yell or when
you press escape while the user is Yelling.
The NoAnswer files have to possible extensions, you create
them with a text- or ansi editor. Create one file with the
extension .BBS and one with the extension .GBS. The BBS
file should not contain any ANSI commands while it is a plain
ASCII-file. The GBS-file should contain ANSI-commands and it
is shown to all users with ANSI. If the GBS doesn't exist the
BBS file will be shown to ANSI-users.
If the files contain a Ctrl-A (Character 01h) Whale Chat will
wait a that position for the user to press ENTER. It should
look like this:
Press ENTER to continue
_____________
Macro-strings
The macro-strings (edited in the SETUP) can contain any
characters you want the user to see when you press a Function
key (F1 - F9). The can contain these special commands:
Ctrl-A (''), Shows the user's whole Name.
Ctrl-B (''), <Backspace> erases the prior character.
Ctrl-C (''), Shows the user's first name.
Ctrl-D (''), Shows the user's last name.
'~', Makes a delay in approximately 100 ms. Useful when you
want the user to believe that you wrote the "string".
'|', Sends an ENTER (Char 13 and Char 10).
