MaxMail 1.61
August 4,1991
Okay, Version 1.6x is a BIG update to Maxmail. Mainly I have
added QWK support! And I mean full support. Users can chose QWK style
or original text archive format on the fly. Also with QWK selected, a
user may upload the standard REP packets generated by the QWK readers.
He can even choose areas not currently selected, as long as they are valid
message areas on your bbs (We list ALL message areas in the control file
for QWK to enable this feature). There's an awful lot to this. You can
even include a signon message, goodbye message, news/bulletins and NEWFILES
list. These added files must be generated by something outside of MaxMail
of course. I use Xlist to create a newfiles list (30 day) every night here.
Anyways, the sysop controls all of that through the MaxMail cfg file.
I think everyone will enjoy this vastly improved update. There are
many little features I don't even list here, as well as the usual bug
fixes. Its pretty solid and complete now. If you are currently running
Maxmail 15x or less, be sure and take this new MaxMail CFG file I include
here and edit for your particulars, if you use your old one instead most
features will be disabled! The user base file works fine and is fully upwards
compatable. When you install this new MaxMail you should let users know about
the QWK (i.e. tell them to enter [C]hange configuration when they first log
on), elsewise not much new will show up. I do this thru the MaxMail bulletin
option, so it only shows up once..I include some sample stuff. Or worse case,
delete MaxMail.usr and make everyone start over. That will force them to
select QWK or not..
The sysop now has a new offline maintainence mode "/S" switch which
wont require a fossil or com port, it does need to be run from Maximus root
directory. This new mode allows you to "pack" the user records and kill off
dead users no longer on your bbs or any ones you delete yourself. It is
probably good to do this once in a while to keep the file small.. Whew!
There's so much to this version I just can't tell it all here!

If you are currently running Maxmail 1.60, all you need to do is copy over
this new exe file. And set for echotoss log support if desired. MaxMail 1.61
will append/create the echotoss log (as specified in Max.ctl) for echo areas
