Current version in effect - ESC 1.4 (1.50)
PLEASE NOTE:
This list starts with the earliest version updates and
progresses to the latest. Some updates are superseded by
later changes, thereby nulifying them. Perhaps it would be
best to read this file from bottom to top.
3/20/92
Here's the latest change: 16:25
Added two more options. Binkmode and Routing...
Binkmode allows you to choose whether Binkley will come up
in the unattended or attended mode. This ONLY applies to a
POINT setup and ONLY from the MAIL MENU. POLL always comes
up in the ATTENDED (BT MAIL) mode.
Routing allows you to choose to route all mail through your
Boss or go direct. Of course you have to have the nodelist
entries to support Direct routing.
DELETE BINKLEY.LNG - Esc needs to write a new one.
Copy ESC.EXE over your old one. Type ESC at your DOS prompt.
You will be told you have a GRUNDGED CONFIG. Not to worry.
Choose the "System" menu and examine the new options. When
you're done write out the pertainent files listed below.
NOTE the warning to delete your BINKLEY.LNG!
BE SURE TO DELETE - BINKLEY.LNG and have ESC write out the
BINKLEY.CFG - ROUTE.CFG and MAIL.BAT.. You can leave all
else alone.
3/21/92
18:00
Route.Cfg is now parsed when rewriting it from the file Pick
menu. Custom edits above the ; World Control line are saved.
3/24/92
07:30
Picklist menu changed. Blocks which replaced check marks
have been replaced with blank spaces to avoid checked file
confusion. Also, ESC.CFG check remains sticky. It has to
be deleted manually. This is an attempt to keep someone
from changing a file but not have the change recorded in
the ESC.CFG.
3/30/92
00:00
Mail.bat now requires DOTHIS.COM instead of ASK_BAT.
ForwardTo and ForwardFrom have been commented out in the
Squish.Cfg.
3/31/92
23:15
Added second address line to squish.cfg as per Bill
Eastman's observation. Incorporated version and point
type (3d / 4d) into esc.cfg for future processing. fixed
display (window) problem in editor mode (escape key).
4/01/92
17:15
Corrected informational errors in docs and programs
concerning SQSet. Cleaned up some online info, making
it more comprehensible (hopefully). Trimmed some coding
in the setup module.
4/02/92
08:00
Changed NEWAREA.EXE to accept -a command line switch.
Now allows user to manually add new areas to configs.
Updated ESC.EXE to create new MAIL.BAT which puts this
feature (AREAMAN) into it. Updated to docs for feature.
Added version detection module. Fixed MAIL.BAT display.
4/03/92
17:00
Added outbound file detection to Mail menu. ESC only
checks for version NUMBERS (not letter extention) for
total rebuilding of configuration. Rebuilds will only
occur for radical upgrades.
4/04/92
09:15a
esc13.e
Removed outbound file detection from mail menu.
I forgot that outbound bundles are zeroed rather than
deleted, Oops.. Added a new feature to the Squish
menu from the Mail menu. LSTAREA, lists the echoareas
found in the squish.cfg.
4/08/92
06:33a
esc1.3i
Repaired SETSIZE to sort message area size figures
as well as the names. The area numbers could be entered
out of chronological order and then sorted. Setsize was
not moving the size values with the area numbers.
Added a DIRECT mode from the MAIL menu for direct calls.
Removed the BINKMODE from the system editor because of
the feature just mentioned. Broke the second menu into
two parts because it was getting too large. "Tried" to
make them clearer. Also edited the help information.

esc1.3p
NEWAREA.EXE now handles the duties of XAREA.EXE. Xarea
has been discarded. Changed MAIL menu to implement the
change. Broke the Squish menu in two. Also added BONK
as a nodelist editor item to the new third menu. Made
some cosmetic changes to the MAIL menus. Found that I
had broken the ADDMAN feature to wipe out all area
entries in the MAIL.BAT after running it (YIKES!). Fix
it..

esc1.3t
Thanks to Bret Johnson of 1:226/1140 the following
obscure problem was pointed out and remedied.
NEWAREA.EXE now handles long area names and parses them
in an attempt to make a unique filename for squish. Was
having a problem with internet type news group names.
GOLDED message editor support added.
Reworked HELP messages in mail.bat
Fixed option Y and Z to allow toggle if 4d (NODE)
settings were chosen.
5/25/92

esc1.4
Significant changes required an additional parameter
to be inserted in the esc.cfg. Therefore Esc has to
be run from scratch, wiping out old files. Here are
the major changes.
1. Version 7 nodelist support (Jim Allonby's request)
This means that Qnode must be present rather than
Parselst and Qsort. Compile time was greatly reduced.
Bonk 1.74 must be used to edit Esc's nodelist.
2. 4d points are fully supported now instead of the
old kludge of faking it in with the NODE setup.
3. User input barriers should keep unusually long
answers from munging the program.
4. Msged 2.1 features added to configuration.
5/29/92
08:13a
esc1.41
Added the new Binkley 2.55 language file support.
Thanks for sending it Bret Johnson!
5/30/92
10:15p
esc1.43
Fixed system type conversion bugs (hope) and added
Esc menu hotkey/coldkey *) option.
6/2/92
08:30p
esc1.44
Fixed sharing violation. <blush>
6/4/92
12:20a
Found some rewrite errors for the password and
pointnet. Changed DOTHIS so DOTHIS- is no longer
needed by adding a hotkey toggle (*h). Having an
intermitant problem with the boss not being found
in the nodelist after Qnode does its thing. Seems
running Qnode a second time fixes it ???
6/12/92
11:00
esc1.46
Added WIMM support.
Added Xlaxnode support.
Now saves and implants message and squish area
declaration from old configuration into upgrade.
Changed Newarea.exe to list static message barrier
information (ie -$m250) along with area name.
7/11/92
10:14p
esc1.47
Added YABOM support.
Now saves the function declarations from Msged.Cfg
Supports DOMAIN addressing.
Node setup handles 4d points
Bugs hammered (still on the hunt though).
7/24/92
10:08a
esc1.48
Fixed Newarea.exe.. If Msged and Squish message area
declaration were out of sync the Msged.cfg wasn't
being updated correctly.
Added a SWAP DRIVE question in the setup and option in
the Esc Editor mode. Squish, Binkley, Msged and Golded
will all use it. Esc now creates a separate editor
batch file called Msgedit.bat for Binkley (in the
unattended mode), which will call it up if ALT E is
pressed. Esc creates a GOTMAIL.BAT for Binkley which
can be utilized by removing the semicolon before the
binkley token AFTERMAIL. This would be of primary
interest if you want your mail to be automatically
tossed after it is received (binkley unattended mode).
Esc creates an OKFILE.LST for node setups. Added the
OKFILE token to the Binkley.cfg to support it.
Changed the Esc Picklist menu/display. Incorporated
the non changing batch files into one item called
MISC FILES. A few other files are also incorporated
into other items on the picklist to save space and
simplify the appearance.
7/24/92
10:25a
esc1.49
Added a TIMER function to the 3rd screen of the
MAIL menu. This allows up to 20 user set times for
Esc to poll out.
Changed all calls from NEWAREA.EXE to ESCUTIL.EXE
due to the significant change to it and to avoid
confusion on older setups. Esc now deletes the
NEWAREA.EXE and (DOTHIS-.COM) on an update install.
Currently working on an automatic message generator
for new setups.
7/28/92
08:16
esc1.49*
Georges Troupin of 2:293/2201 reported a squish file
name creation bug in which the '.' is retained in
the AREA: name IF it is under 8 characters in length.
I believe it is fixed with this addition to the code.
{
/* NO '.' in filename */
if(strchr(newar, '.')!=NULL) *strchr(newar, '.') = '_';
}
Also, the recommendation for Qnode to produce the
fidouser.lst was taken. Esc must now be able to find
QNODE.EXE and QIDX.EXE.
7/29/92
13:01
esc1.49*
Added inbound mail detection to the timer. If mail
has arrived after a timed poll has occurred, the word
'InBound' will appear on the little timer display.
It also appears that the creation of (short) new area
names which have periods imbedded in them are being
created correctly now.
8/1/92
12:35
esc1.50
The EscTimer can save a list of poll times and offer
to use them on subsequent calls.
