The NameChng door is written to provide the PCBoard 14.5/a (c) Sysop a
configurable way to allow aliases in part or all of the BBS. NameChng runs as
a shelled door, with no user intervention, and changes the user's name,
current conference, and conference registrations. By simply editing a text
file, the sysop can limit an alias to any specific conferences on a user by
user basis, with easy definitions of groups, allowing a single letter to stand
for a group of conferences.
Users can have one or many aliases, each alias can be set up with the
same or different conference allowances. The sysop has full control over who
can use which alias in what conferences, all thru editing a simple text file.
The door uses PCB's "stacked" door command, and can be setup by the sysop
either as two doors (one to switch to alias, one to switch back to real) OR as
a single door with a parameter of either ALIAS or REAL passed from the user.
With the many commands now included in NameChange, the multiple batch
operation is only desirible in very specific situations (as is my D&D game
conference example below).
NameChng is released as ShareWare, and as such should be paid for if it
is used beyond a trial period of 30 days. Whether you use the program or not,
you are encouraged to make copies and distribute them as long as no changes
are made to the files (and no additions PLEASE!) NameChng is fully funtional
as distributed and is not crippled in any way. Registration enables the extra
feature of multiple aliases, and includes e-mail support on Sybil BBS, and
notification of further versions and software releases from SybilWare; the
cost is only $15, which seems quite fair to me. All registrations will be
recognized by ALL later version of NameChng. Failure to register this will
reduce the chances that I will release more software into the shareware
market.
Registrations should be made payable to boB Gage and mailed to: Sybil BBS
/ PO Box 11441 / Blacksburg, VA 24062-1441.
