Legend Of The Red Dragon Sysop Docs
V1.7
REMEMBER..This is *NOT* freeware, it is shareware, if you
use this product, you MUST send in the shareware fee!
***What is Legend Of The Red Dragon?
A new concept in role playing... This is a very
good role playing multi user, user fighting user, all
around fun game! Give it a try...If you like it, register
it..
***How do I set it up?
Its very easy... Move all the files into its own directory..
Then run LORDCFG.EXE from the dos prompt, and follow the
instructions... Thats where you can set it to your BBS
type, whatever it may be, (LORD, (Legend Of The Red Dragon) supports
most BBS types) ..Then, when you put in the command line to run
in your BBS when a user plays, do it like this..
C:\DOORS\LORD LORD.EXE /pC:\BBS
The switch (/pC:\BBS part) is the path to your drop files... so
/p plus the path is the format...Your drop files are probably
in your BBS's main directory... There...YOUR ALL SET UP!
*** IMPORTANT ***
When executing LORD.EXE do NOT leave out the .EXE part!
Even tho most programs don't mind, LORD will.
***How do I run it locally?
You can run it locally, without a BBS, from the dos prompt. Be
sure to set it up first! (put everything in a dir, then run LORD.CFG)
to run it, type LORD.EXE /l at the dos prompt...The l switch is
for local!
***How do I reset the game after someone wins?
There is an option in LORDCFG.EXE that does that for you.
If that has a problem, just delete PLAYER.DAT, LORD.CFG,
and it will reset the actual game...To reset the conversation
at the bar, delete BAR.TXT. Deleting anything that starts
with MAIL is also a good idea...Remember, the reset option
in LORDCFG.EXE does all this for you...
***What about maintainence?
LORD automatically runs its maintaintence when the first player
plays that day...It takes UNDER A SECOND, so they won't even
notice.
***What about if I want the scores a bulletin?
LORD writes a file in its directory called SCORES.TXT
It has no ANSI, and will always have the current rankings
of the game!
***What if the user falls asleep, or runs out of time?
LORD will throw him off on both counts...
***What can I do while a user is online playing Lord?
Press Alt H and it will list the commands avaible to you..
One is you can Chat at any time, (if the user supports ANSI
it will be in colors) one is you can up or lower the users
time..(arrow keys) But any changes will NOT be made permenent,
after the user is out of the door, it will be whatever it would
be if you hadn't changed it.. It will show who is on on a status
line at the bottom of your screen at all times.
***What if I want to run two games?
You should have no problems.
You can run as many as you want, even though I suggest
just running one, because more people will play it at one
time!
***What if I want to change the name of LORD.EXE?
The game will not work if you do.
***What if I want to edit users?
You can edit the PLAYER.DAT file, it is a text file, and
with some common sense can be done...But please do not cheat!
You can crash your game if you do it wrong, so beware...
***What if I have more than one node?
On the command string, add the node switch, which will tell
LORD what node your running it on, it looks like this.. /n1
The format is first the \n then the number of the node.
EXAMPLE...
C:\DOORS\LORDDIR\LORD.EXE \pC:\BBS \n1
(you can add the new switch anywhere...)
***How can I make my LORD game successful?
Make it easy to get to...(like LORD from the main menu...Or list it
first on your list of doors...More people will play it that
way...) Announce in your NEWS file that you now have it, and it
was just reset.. So everyone knows...Try to always reset at
midnight...Or early morning, so that everyone gets to start at the
same time! Give the door the above conditions, and it will THRIVE!
***Why should I register?
No one can kill the Red Dragon, and finish the game if you
don't...Otherwise, it will work the exact same..
After someone kills the Dragon, He sees a spectacular
ending ansi, and anyone who plays before it is reset will
see a screen depicting his battle, and saying what a great
warrior he is...!
So you had better register!! Send $10 to the address below, and
you will be SENT a REGISTRATION CODE, that you can input with
the LORDCFG.EXE program, easly! (the resgistration will work
on all future versions too) If I recieve alot of registrations,
I will continue to advance the game, and adding more stuff.
I PROMISE.
Send your ten buck check as shareware fee to:

A note..
When you recieve your registration code, remember that
it is yours, and is unique.. Do not share it!!
This game is the result over 200 hours, and 5 year of my life.
I orginally wrote it on a Commodore 128, a one player version, similar
in a lot of ways. Then I moved on to a DOOR for the Amiga, and
popular demand has lead me to write it for the IBM.. I hope you and
your users like it.. If you have ANY problems, call my support
BBS and let me know...Or write a letter... The BBS is..
The Darkside BBS (503) 838-6171
300-2400 Baud, 24 hrs.
(Get new versions here too)
Version 1:
It worked pretty well...But had a few tiny bugs..
Version 1.1:
Fixed those bugs, added a few small things..(like Gem selling)
Updating from 1:
To not reset the game, just overwrite your old LORD.EXE with
the new one, and also overwrite BUYARM.TXT...(it was wrong before..)
Version 1.3:
Fixed a few more bugs...An a few important ones...Hopefully this
version will work perfectly forever!
Updating from a previous version...just copy your new LORD.EXE over
your old one...
Version 1.5:
The perfect version at last!!! Fixed a bug that you couldn't
run, also the list players function is made a text file, and
skipable...
Version 1.6:
Fixed a bug where you could be hit by Rude Boy for 7000!
Version 1.7:
Fixed a lot of little things, so now it is perfect....
After the game is won, it won't list the players...
You can't pick a name that is already being used...
Mispellings fixed...
NOTE FOR SPITFIRE USERS:
I have heard that it will not run locally...But perfect
remotely...
Special thanks to Scott M. Baker, for doing a great job with
Doordriver...It let me skip straight to working on the game...
