- Micro Haus Viewer v2.0
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- Introduction :-
-
- The Micro Haus Viewer, referred to as MHV, has been provided for
- users of the 'Black Box' CD-Rom Disc. MHV enables users to
- browse the listings of the various categories, to interrogate the
- Archived files, and to provide an easy and quick method of
- running programs within the archives.
-
-
- Installation :-
-
- First, create a DOS directory where you would like to run
- the MHV program from.
-
- MD \MHV
- CD \MHV
-
- Copy the following files to this directory:
-
- MHV.EXE
- MHV.HLP
- FLM2CFG.DTA
- ARCHIVER.FLM
- EXTERNAL.FLM
-
- Enter "MHV paths" at the DOS prompt, and press Return. Two
- questions are asked, first the path to the MHV Data stored on
- the 'Black Box'. The data, is stored in the \MHAUS\DATA
- directory, all you will need to alter from the preset
- configuration, is the Drive letter for your CD-Rom drive. Also,
- you are able to specify the letter of a HD drive, which you
- would like MHV to use as workspace.
-
- In addition, MHV uses the following utilities:
-
- PKUNZIP.COM - PkWare's .ZIP format archiver
- ARJ.EXE - Robert K Jung .ARJ format archiver
- LIST.COM - V.Buergs file browser.
-
- these only need to be in your DOS path.
-
-
- Operation :-
-
- 1) Enter 'MHV' at the DOS prompt. The program makes a check that
- the 'Black Box volume 3' can be located.
-
- A list of the filelists is displayed on the screen. You are
- able to move the Highlight Bar so as to select one of the
- areas. To select an area, simply press the Return key.
-
- 2) After selecting one of the areas, the filelist is displayed.
- The filenames, filesize and description is shown for each file.
- Again, use your Cursor Keys to move the Highlight Bar from file
- to file.
-
- The following functions are available when a filename is highlighted:
-
- Copy - facility to copy a file to any destination as input.
-
- Extract - facility to Extract the contents of an archive into a
- destination directory as input.
-
- Shell - facility to extract the contents of an archive or
- copy the file as is if not an archive, to the Work
- directory. MHV will then swap itself out of memory
- and invoke a DOS shell. Once done, you can use any
- of your normal DOS commands, for instance DIR will
- then list the files. Using the Shell, you are able
- to run the programs which were in the Archive.
- To return to MHV, type EXIT at the DOS prompt.
-
- View - this facility will use the LIST.COM utility, to
- enable you to Browse thru the file.
-
- Archive - as most files are in a compressed format, use the
- Viewer Archive Viewer to show the contents of the archived
- [TAB] file. When displayed, the files within the archive
- are broadly categorised into three types.
- a) displyed in Yellow, are the textfiles,
- documents, readme files.
- b) displayed in Cyan, are the executable's. ie
- .EXE, .COM, .SYS and .BAT files
- c) displayed in Green, are all other files.
-
- Usually, documentation will be at the top of the
- list, and by using the Key 'V' for View you will be
- able to read the documentation files to gather
- further information about the archive beyond the
- scope of our brief 1 line descriptions.
-
- You are also able to Extract a specific file from the
- archive by entering 'E' for extract.
-
- F10 - The Record Card for each file provides the following
- information on each file:
- a) the directory the file is located in
- b) the file size
- c) the date of the file
- d) 2 line description of each file
- e) an indicator of whether we have tested the file
- and it's contents for Viruses. You will quickly
- see that every single file in fact has passed our
- checks and is marked 'Virus Free'. For your
- information, this took over 50 hours processing
- time on a fast 386 machine.
-
- Sub Headings - Many of the longer lists have been categorised even
- [SPACE] further, and Sub-Headings are marked within the list.
- By pressing the [SPACE] bar, a list of the Sub-Headings
- are displayed, and by then using your cursor keys and the
- Return key you are able to Select a Sub-Heading and move
- directly to that portion of the filelist.
-
- Keyword - by pressing 'K', you will be asked for a Keyword to search
- Search for in the descriptions of the files on this list.
- After the first file is found, you can then use 'A' for
- again to move to the next file with the Keyword specified
- in it.
-
- F1 - displays online, the commands and options available at this
- point of the MHV program.
-
-
- 3) From the Main Menu, you can press the F4 function key which will display
- a GLOBAL list of every file on the 'Black Box' in Alphabetical order.
- All of the facilities listed above are still opperable, but additionally
- a very fast Search and Collate system is available.
-
- Filename - by entering just the first few characters of the filename
- Search you will be taken to that portion of the list of files
- where your choice is listed. Or enter the filename in full
- and you will be taken to that file specifically.
-
- Keyword - enter the Keyword to search for, and MHV will find the
- Search first file whose description contains the Keyword entered.
- To continue the search, enter 'A' for again.
-
- Collate - You are able to create an extract of the files from the
- system GLOBAL list, using your own Keyword selection.
- [F4] Enter a Keyword, and MHV will find all those files with the
- Keyword listed in the file descriptions. You can continue
- to add files to current collation using another Keyword by
- continuing to press F4
-
- Alt+F4 - to finish with the collated list, and return to the GLOBAL
- list, press the key sequence Alt+F4
-
-
- In all parts of MHV, pressing the ESCAPE key will return you to the
- previous screen, and finally exit the program.
