Dear reviewer; 1-800-GO-BOOST
Enclosed you will find a demonstration version of our display list driver for
AutoCAD. Although the driver is a fully functional drivers, it operatates
only for a limited period. After 15 minutes of operation, you must exit
AutoCAD and restart the demo. To ensure that no drawings are damaged, you
will be notifided when the demo time has expired. Only the protected mode
16-color driver is included in this demo. The full demo package includes the
following drivers (call 1-800-GO-BOOST to order this free package):
Protected mode drivers (AutoCAD R11):
BOOST16.EXP 16 color VGA protected mode driver
BOOST256.EXP 256 color VGA protected mode with CEG support
BOOST32k.EXP 32k color VGA protected mode with anti-aliasing
BOOS8514.EXP 256 color 8514/A protected mode
Real mode drivers (AutoCAD R10):
BOOST16.EXE 16 color VGA real mode driver
BOOST256.EXE 256 color VGA real mode with CEG support
BOOST32k.EXE 32k color VGA real mode with anti-aliasing
BOOS8514.EXP 256 color 8514/A real mode
To use one of the demo drivers, please first use the program CONFIG.EXE to
configure the desired driver. You can use F1 key to get help in the CONFIG
utility. Then set your environmental variables DSPADI, RDPADI and RCPADI (for
AutoSHADE) to where the configured driver resides. And last, configure you
AutoCAD/AutoSHADE for 'P386 ADI 4.1' display driver. For best performance
of real mode drivers use VDISK drive for display list (and use CONFIG.EXE to
select that drive).
To use Birdseye feature, use commands ZD, PD, or use button 2 on the
digitizer/mouse to 'popup' the birdseye window, and then use buttons 3 and 1
to define new zoom window. You may like to try ZA for 'Zoom All of display
list', and RD for 'Redraw display list' to appreciate the drawing speed of
our drivers. Another command to try, after couple of ZI (zoom in), is CCP
(continuous center pan). This command lets you quickly pan in the direction
of the cursor. For a quick summary of all commands, you can use CONFIG utility
menu. Use 16-color drivers for speed, and 256-color (or 32k color) for
anti-aliasing or more colors (but you must have EDSUN CEG DAC for anti-aliasing
in the 256-color driver, and Sierra HiColor DAC for 32k-color driver).
Try commands AO & AP to enable anti-aliasing, and AF to disable it.
AO is faster but not as accurate as AP. Difference between AP and AO
is most noticable with lines going over polygons. Try the command AS
(Alias-Split) on the drawing SPLIT.DWG. It shows the same drawing
both aliased and anti-aliased on the same screen (with AS, left side of
the screen is anti-aliased and the right side is normal).
We also offer AIM - icon driven drivers, non-display list, and others. Our
drivers support virtually every VGA and 8514, and we offer support for
EDSUN and Sierra DACs.
For your convenience we have also included a LISP program TIMEIT.LSP to test
the speed of display list drivers. Enter an AutoCAD drawing and then
do ZOOM ALL. To load and start the program type:
(load "timeit")
timeit
..type in your comment line
The result of the test is placed in the file TIMEIT in the current directory.
The result contains the average time to redraw, drawing name, followed by the
the comment. We found that this test gives a good representation of how
a typical AutoCAD operator will perceive speed of the driver. In particular
it measures how fast the driver moves from full drawing to a smaller section
and back. This is much better than measuring just the REDRAW. Make sure
that you use this test on large drawings (1MByte or more), otherwise you
may be timing how long it takes to clear the screen and to scroll status line.
