ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1. Help for Options ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use this page to set your computer to save power.
When your computer is turned on but there is no mouse or keyboard activity, you
can set your system to automatically dim the display. Dimming the display
saves electricity. When you resume mouse or keyboard activity, the system
detects the action and automatically turns the display back on.
Features of this page include:
Display Support
This option lets you identify your display as having support that
provides different levels of power saving modes. When you set DPMS
to On, the system sends a signal to your display adapter to use
less power and start the power saving mode that you specified.
Timeout Options
This option lets you specify a power saving mode and the amount of
time you want to elapse between the last mouse or keyboard activity
and the dimming of the display.
For more information, select a topic from the list below.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 2. Help for Display Support ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use Display Support to set Display Power Management Signaling (DPMS) to On or
Off.
o If you set DPMS to On, your display is ready to conserve power by temporarily
dimming the display screen.
o If DPMS is already set to On, the system has identified the display as being
DPMS supported.
o If DPMS is set to Off, but your display supports DPMS, you can set it to On.
Warning: You could damage your display if you set DPMS to On, and your
display does not support DPMS. To determine if your display supports DPMS,
refer to the documentation that came with your display.
o If you set DPMS to Off, DPMS support is not available.

ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 3. Help for Timeout Options ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use Timeout Options to specify a power saving mode and the time in minutes you
want to elapse before your display screen dims.
Use a radio button to set a power saving mode:
Standby
Conserves a minimum of power. When mouse or keyboard activity resumes,
the display screen is immediately turned back on.
Suspend
Conserves less than maximum power. When mouse or keyboard activity
resumes, some delay may occur before the display screen is turned back
on.
Off
Conserves maximum power. When mouse and keyboard activity resumes, a
noticeable delay occurs before the display screen is turned back on.
Use a spin button to set the elapsed time in minutes. You can select a timeout
value of 1 to 99 minutes. Timeout values must be in ascending order with
Standby as the lowest and Off as the highest. For example:
Standby 30 minutes
Suspend 45 minutes
Off 75 minutes
When no mouse or keyboard activity is detected, the system refers to the
specified time. If all values are set to On, the system starts at Standby and
progresses to Off mode. Any mouse or keyboard activity reactivates the display.

Select Undo to change the settings to those that were active before this window
was displayed.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 5. Help for Default ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Select Default to change the settings to those that were active when you
installed the system.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 6. Help for Standby ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use the Standby mode to conserve power. The standby mode allows you to
conserve minimum power.
When you select Standby, the system dims the display. Mouse or keyboard
activity immediately resumes operation of your display.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 7. Help for Suspend ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use the Suspend mode to conserve electrical or battery power. The suspend mode
allows you to conserve as much power as possible without turning off the
computer.
When you select All, the system dims the display and turns off devices that are
not in use. The system conserves electrical or battery power by putting itself
into a dormant state.
When you select DPMS, the system dims the display only.
To exit Suspend mode for DPMS and resume operation of your display, use your
mouse or press any key.
To exit Suspend mode for All and resume operation of your system, you need to
use the features of your computer.
Some computers have a resume key that you press to exit suspend mode. Other
computers enter suspend mode when the computer lid is closed and exit suspend
mode after the lid is opened. Refer to the documentation that came with your
computer for information about its suspend mode features.
After you exit suspend mode, you will notice a startup delay before you can
resume operation of your system. This delay might be a few seconds, depending
on your system.
ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 8. Help for Off ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ
Use the Off mode to conserve power. The Off mode allows you to conserve
maximum power.
When you select Off, the system dims the display. Mouse or keyboard activity
resumes operation of your display. Some delay may occur.
