  66. FAMILY RUNNER is among the finest personal/family schedulers available.
  67. It will prepare calendars and other reports that display one person's
  68. upcoming events or those for several people simultaneously. Data can be
  69. filtered when a report is generated, so that only events for a particular
  70. project, or only those events containing a particular word, will be
  71. displayed.

  73. Considering all it can do, the program is surprisingly easy to use. Its
  74. reports, while not as infinitely customizable as the ones provided by
  75. those output-oriented calendar producers with limited scheduling
  76. capability, are attractive, functional, and simple to set up.

  78. This program will optionally drag events forward from day to day until
  79. you tell the program to tag them for deletion.  Finding free time,
  80. establish- ing recurring events, and viewing religious dates (Christian,
  81. Jewish, and Muslim) are a snap for this program.  And, as a bonus, the
  82. program includes a Log module that tracks money spent and received.  It
  83. will even produce an Income-Expense report for any period of time
  84. desired.  And there's much, much more.  So, dive in and explore!

  125. ===== Installation =====================================

  127. This program will operate only with Windows 95 or NT.  A version is also
  128. available for Windows 3.x.
  129.  
  130. First, you must extract the files from the archive into an empty
  131. directory (folder) on your hard disk and then run the SETUP.BAT routine
  132. that will have been extracted.  SETUP.BAT will cause the files to be
  133. copied to an INTEGRA directory on your hard disk.
  134.  
  135. Then, you should complete this basic setup for Windows 95:
  136.  
  137.        1) Point to the Start button on the Task Bar.  When you
  138.        RIGHT-click the mouse, a menu will appear.  Select "Open" on the
  139.        menu.
  140.  
  141.        2) A "Start Menu" box will appear.  Double-click on the "Programs"
  142.        folder.
  143.  
  144.        3) A "Programs" box will appear, showing the sub-folders currently
  145.        included within Programs folder.  Double-click on the folder in
  146.        which you wish to include this program.
  147.  
  148.        4) A box showing the programs contained within the folder will
  149.        appear. Select   File | New   at the box's pull-down menu.  Then,
  150.        select "Shortcut" at the sub-menu that appears.

  152.        5) A "Create Shortcut" box will appear.  Into the "Command Line"
  153.        item, type

  157.        6) Then, you'll be asked to select a name or title for this
  158.        program or shortcut.  Type in anything that is meaningful to you.

  171. PRINTING THE MANUAL:
  172.  
  173. The manual consists entirely of on-line help that is organized into
  174. several "chapters" referenced in its table of contents.  Selecting "Help"
  175. at the pull-down menu will take you into the help system, where you may
  176. search for information by keyword.  Pressing the F1 key almost anywhere
  177. within the program will take you directly to a section of the manual that
  178. discusses that section of the program.
  179.  
  180. Printing the manual involves several steps.  First, get into the help
  181. system ("Help" or F1).  When there, select the "Contents" button.  At the
  182. Contents page, select  File | Print.  After the Contents page has
  183. printed, select the first topic in the Contents listing.  When that topic
  184. appears, select  File | Print.  After that topic prints, return to the
  185. Contents page and select the next topic and print it.  Repeat this
  186. process until the entire manual has been printed.
  187.

  189. VIDEO PROBLEMS:
  190.  
  191. -> If text on the screen or printer seems improperly sized or does not
  192. seem to fit neatly into the areas where it should, there are two possible
  193. reasons:   One possibilty is that the video driver you're using may not
  194. be optimal.  Some drivers seem to be incapable of producing text of a
  195. selected font at the correct size, especially at the higher resolutions.
  196. If you have a choice between a driver that uses "large fonts" and one
  197. that uses "small fonts", choose the latter.  Video drivers are selected
  198. in the Windows "Setup" program (usually found in the "Main" group in the
  199. Program Manager). Another possible cause of poorly fitting text is that
  200. you may be either missing some font files or using font files that have
  201. been altered by other software.  This program relies upon the following
  202. ORIGINAL fonts supplied by Microsoft Windows:  Arial, Courier New,
  203. Terminal, MS Serif, MS Sans Serif, and System.  If they seem to be
  204. unavailable, they may be somewhere on your hard disk, but not installed.
  205. Try using the Windows "Fonts" routine (found in the "Control Panel") to
  206. find and install (or add) them.  Also useful may be the /NT option
  207. discussed near the end of the on-line help's "Configuration" section. ->
  208. If vertical and horizontal scroll bars appear when the program loads,
  209. your window borders may be too wide to allow enough space for this
  210. program's screens to display in full.  Reduce the size of your window
  211. borders to 1 by running the "Desktop" program (usually found in "Control
  212. Panel" group in Windows' Program Manager).  Or, simply "maximize" the
  213. program on the screen.
  214.  
  215. -> If gibberish appears anywhere in the program, the problem is that the
  216. video driver you are using cannot produce all the fonts used by the
  217. program. Try another driver.  Video drivers are selected in the Windows
  218. "Setup" program (usually found in the "Main" group in the Program
  219. Manager).

  222. PRINTER PROBLEMS:
  223.  
  224. -> If fonts appear to be improperly sized, or if gibberish appears on the
  225. printout, make sure that the printer driver that you have installed into
  226. Windows is specifically matched to your EXACT printer model and that the
  227. driver was provided by the printer manufacturer, not Microsoft.  A
  228. "close" match or "emulation" may not be good enough, and Microsoft's
  229. drivers are generally less reliable than those from printer
  230. manufacturers.  If you must use Microsoft drivers, consider using one for
  231. a related printer.  If that doesn't work, try one for an earlier model in
  232. the same manufacturer's line (for instance, if you have an HP LaseJet 4,
  233. you might get the results you desire by using a LaserJet II or LaserJet
  234. III driver).  This program does nothing fancy with your printer.  It
  235. relies ENTIRELY upon Windows to pass printing instructions through the
  236. driver to the printer.  So why do other programs appear to work with your
  237. printer and the driver you are currently using?  Perhaps because those
  238. programs don't rely upon the same Arial and Courier New fonts that this
  239. program does.  Or perhaps the other programs are somehow bypassing
  240. Windows to print directly to the printer.  Be assured that if your
  241. Windows printer driver is a good match for your printer, this program's
  242. output will be fine.
