These files will update your Norton Utilities for Windows 95 programs.
This update does the following:
* Improves the protection of files manipulated from a DOS prompt.
This addresses an issue referenced in the Microsoft Knowledge Base.
* Improves the accuracy of the System Doctor "Drive Space" sensor.
This is the sensor which monitors free hard drive space on your computer.
* Improves Speed Disk support for certain types of compressed drives,
including Bernoulli and Syquest drives.
In addition, there are improvements which affect only the following types
of users:
* Users who have Quicken 5.0 Deluxe installed on their computers.
* Users who have installed the Windows 95 files SYSTEM.DAT and
USER.DAT on different drives. This caused Speed Disk to continually
restart.
* Users who receive a message from Speed Disk indicating that their
compressed drive has a fragmented header file. Speed Disk will now
defragment these drives.
* Users who use 16-bit Stacker 3.1 through 4.x with Windows 95.
Norton Disk Doctor can safely diagnose and repair file and directory
errors on your Stacker drives. Norton Disk Doctor will look at a Stacker
drive the same way it looks at an uncompressed drive. The Compression Test
will be skipped automatically and any errors found during normal diagnosis
can be safely repaired. Errors found during a Thorough Surface Test
indicate problems with the the compression structures. These should not be
repaired with Norton Disk Doctor. In these cases you should use the disk
repair utility that came with your Stacker software to repair such errors.
Norton Disk Doctor can be used on the host drive with no restrictions
(where most compression problems originate).
To apply the update, follow the procedures below:
1. Select "Shut Down..." from the "Start" menu.
2. Click on "Restart the Computer in MS-DOS mode?"
3. Click "Yes". Your computer will now re-start in MS-DOS
mode.
4. Once the computer has restarted, go to the directory containing
the update files.
5. Type "RUNME C: D:" where C: is the drive where Norton Utilities
is installed and D: is the drive where Windows 95 is installed.
If NU95 and Win95 are both installed on C:, you may simply
type "RUNME C:".
NOTE: If you have previously done a custom install of NU95, you
may see the following message during the update process:
Warning wpt0015: Old File does not exist
This indicates that a file which is supposed to be updated,
has not been installed on the hard drive. The update process
will still correctly patch all of the files which are installed.
6. WARNING: YOU MUST RE-BOOT YOUR COMPUTER AFTER RUNNING THIS UPDATE.
Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to do this.
NOTE: If you re-install Norton Utilities from your original disks or
CD-ROM, you should re-apply this update.
