This doc contains little quirks that you will find from your users. Like
a question and answer list of the most commonly asked questions that I have
received.
Q: I can't get this door to run with WWIV. What am I doing wrong?
A: I have found that most WWIV sysops don't realize all the features that are
built into WWIV. Tell your WWIV sysops to use the //CHAINEDIT function and
the make sure that DOS Interrupts are OFF and the Shrink BBS Option is
set to YES.
Q: It runs fine in local mode, but I can't get it to run from remote. - OR -
Everytime a user goes into the door, it sits there waiting for me to type
in a name.
A: Ask them to make sure that all their drive and path names are correct.
The most common mistake is specifying a drive and path and not including
the drive letter (eg: DOORFILE=\PCB\PCBOARD.SYS). Another common mistake
that will cause this is the sysop has used environment macros, like this
DOORFILE=%PCBDRIVE%%PCBDIR%PCBOARD.SYS. This will automatically put them
into LOCAL MODE.
Q: The door doesn't seem to recognize my comport!
A: The only time that the COMPORT= should be used in the CFG file is if the
DOORFILE= variable is set to DIRECT. Otherwise, all the information will
be read from the DOORFILE as to what comport to use. The only exception to
this rule is when a sysop has a non-standard comport and/or IRQ number. If
they set the COMPORT= variable, then it overrides the settings from the
DOORFILE= and can cause this type of problem. If they are using a door
file that is not supported, have them set DOORFILE=DIRECT.
If you get an error number from your users, and you trace the PRG-CTR number
and find that it is inside the library, please contact me at the Programmer's
Mega-Source BBS - 516/737-4637 and post a comment about what the problem was
and the error/prg-ctr numbers. Give me as much information as possible and I
will attempt to track down the problem and correct it!
