PRIN HISTORY
28: Added date and time feature to filename print.
27: Fixed bug with rxx where xx is less than 40 and the text has no
spaces in it or where xx is an odd number. Normal length lines with
even values for the wrap point (rxx) were not affected. Added
configurable tab size, and password entering system for registered
users.
26: Added print to file option, cloning, many minor improvements.
25: Second official release of prin. Considerable improvements over
23.
25b: Beta version of prin25. Should be deleted from bbs directories.
23: This is the first official release of prin.
23b and previous versions: Beta versions; these should be deleted from
bbs directories.
A General Policy:
-----------------
Prin is an evolving program that is having considerable work done on
it. This has two results: 1) each version has a number of features
the one before lacked, so that distributing old versions deprives the
user of something he might find very useful. 2) Because I am making
major changes, there is always the chance that a bug might develop
that would make the new version less desirable than the one before it,
until a fix could be done.
For these reasons, I ask that sysops keep the previous versions for a
short time while each release is used, in case there is a problem with
it.
** Once reasonable confidence is felt for the new version, the older
ones should be deleted from the listings.**
I have tried to get people to try the program and report. It is hoped
that in the near future, I will have found some people who will run
the new versions and report, and I will be able to release them with
far more confidence than I can reasonably have in my own testing
alone. At that time, I will suggest that the old versions be deleted
immediately.
BORING FACTS
------------
The source code for prin is about 1500 lines long. When prin prints
itself out, which is not infrequent, it takes 25 pages. The current
version at the time of this writing is the 124th. Testing of prin has
taken about 1000 sheets of paper, about the same number of cups of
strong coffee, and an incalculable number of curses. Prin was
developed on a Taiwanese XT in a travel trailer parked way out in the
boonies outside Santa Rosa, CA.
