  5.   Overview

  8.   This version of LaserDriver provides the ability to change emulation modes
  9.   from command line (i.e. without entering the menu structure).  All 4 of
  10.   the IBM 4019 LaserPrinter's emulation modes are supported: PPDS, HP,
  11.   Plotter, and PostScript.

  15.   Syntax

  18.   This version of the program may be executed in the following manner:
  19.  
  20.       "lazrdrvr modeswitch <emulation>"
  21.  
  22.   where <emulation> is one of the following:
  23.  
  24.       o  "PPDS" or "IBM"        for PPDS emulation
  25.       o  "HP"   or "PCL"        for HP emulation
  26.       o  "GL"   or "plotter"    for Plotter emulation
  27.       o  "PS"   or "PostScript" for PostScript emulation
  28.  
  29.   Example:  "lazrdrvr modeswitch plotter"
  30.  
  31.   Any emulation name that's not recognized will cause the program to quit
  32.   without sending any commands.  As long as the word "modeswitch" is used,
  33.   the program will not enter full-screen mode.

  35.   Running the program without arguments (i.e. "lazrdrvr") will invoke the
  36.   normal, full-screen version of the program.

  38.   NOTE: No function has been removed for this version, it's identical to
  39.   Version 3.2 except for this additional mode switching capability.

  46.   This version of the program uses the same information as the normal
  47.   LaserDriver, as far as the printer port (LPT1, COM1, a file name, etc.)
  48.   is concerned.  So, if you've been using LaserDriver to send commands
  49.   to LPT1, that's where the output from this version will go when it's
  50.   invoked in its command-line-only manner.

  52.   This version uses the same method for mode switching as does the "normal"
  53.   LaserDriver.  When used correctly, this can avoid any wear and tear on
  54.   NVRAM that can otherwise result from frequent switching to and from
  55.   PostScript mode.  In order to allow LaserDriver to switch modes
  56.   effectively, follow the following guidelines:

  58.       1. Use LaserDriver to specify your LaserPrinter's default emulation
  59.          mode as something other than PostScript.
  60.  
  61.          This lets LaserDriver know which mode is your printer's default,
  62.          and allows mode switching in such a manner as to preserve your
  63.          NVRAM.
  64.  
  65.          Select "Set Power-On Defaults" from the main menu, then "Specify
  66.          Defaults Common to All Modes" in order to specify the default
  67.          emulation mode.  This only needs to be done once.

  70.       2. As much as possible, use LaserDriver to perform you remote mode
  71.          switches.

  73.          Every time LaserDriver switches your printer's mode, it "remembers"
  74.          what mode it switched to, and will use that information the next
  75.          time it runs, in either the full-screen or command-line mode.

  78.   If you do not own the PostScript Option for the IBM LaserPrinter, these
  79.   guidelines do not apply, but the program may still be used to switch
  80.   emulation modes.
