  7.   Information in this document is more up to date than that in the
  8.   printed manual. Where information in the manual conflicts with
  9.   this document, you should assume that this document contains the
  10.   correct information. Some of the information may already be
  11.   included in the manual.

  14.   Compatibility Issues
  15.   --------------------
  16.  
  17.   The font drivers produced by EVAfont are stand-alone TSR-type
  18.   programs which, when installed, will keep your fonts properly
  19.   loaded during execution of other DOS applications. Please note
  20.   that you don't need a driver to be loaded to run EVAfont itself.
  21.  
  22.   The font drivers produced by EVAfont are compatible with all major
  23.   text-based software products and with some graphics applications.
  24.   But, of course, there still may be some hardware or software
  25.   products which may malfunction when EVAfont's drivers are
  26.   installed. In such cases, we would greatly appreciate it if you
  27.   could send a message to the JV DIALOGUE designers. Please,
  28.   include:
  29.  
  30.      - the exact version of EVAfont and its drivers
  31.      - the manufacturer  name and  model of  the video  card and the
  32.      computer you're using
  33.      - the contents of your CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files
  34.      - the DOS version
  35.      - the malfunctioning application name and version
  36.  
  37.   As a quick work-around we suggest that you check all the resident
  38.   video-related software. The most dangerous may be various screen
  39.   enhancers and screen savers.

  42.   If You're Using A CGA Or Compatible Card
  43.   ----------------------------------------

  45.   Since this video card has no text font download feature, alternate
  46.   fonts cannot be established in the text modes. You may still use
  47.   the 8x8 font driver to install the upper half of the font table 
  48.   for graphics modes (interrupt 1Fh).

  51.   If You're Using An EGA Or Compatible Card
  52.   -----------------------------------------

  54.   If you're using an EGA card connected to an Enhanced Color Display
  55.   (standard display for EGA), lap-top LCD screen, or to a Monochrome
  56.   Display (one for MDA or Hercules cards) you should use drivers for
  57.   the 8x8 and 8x14 fonts. The first one will provide fonts for the
  58.   43 line mode. If you decide that you want to save 2.5K of RAM, you
  59.   can live without the 8x8 driver (and without the standard font in
  60.   those fancy more-than-25-lines modes).

  62.   If your EGA card is connected to a Color Display which is normally
  63.   used with CGA, you need to start only the 8x8 font driver.

  66.   If You're Using A VGA Or Compatible Card
  67.   ----------------------------------------

  69.   If you're using a VGA card with a VGA Color Monitor or a VGA
  70.   Monochrome monitor, then you need to start drivers for each type
  71.   of font (i.e. 8x8, 8x14 and 8x16). This is because VGA BIOS
  72.   contains patterns for all this fonts, so in order to have full VGA
  73.   functionality, you need to override all of them.

  75.   If your VGA is connected to an Enhanced Color Display (standard
  76.   display for EGA) or to the Monochrome Display (one for MDA or
  77.   Hercules cards) you should use the drivers for the 8x8 and 8x14
  78.   fonts.

  80.   In case you are such a weird person that you're running your great
  81.   VGA card with a 'fuzzy' Color Display intended for old CGA's, just
  82.   use the 8x8 font driver. Good luck...

  85.   Note for Toshiba Laptop Users
  86.   -----------------------------
  87.  
  88.   Toshiba T1600 (and maybe some other models) should run EVAfont in
  89.   a 'SAFE' mode by including /S switch in the command line. Failure
  90.   to do this will produce random patterns in the Character Edit
  91.   Window upon program start.
  92.  
  93.   This incompatibility does not affect EVAfont produced drivers.

  96.   EVAfont And OS/2 DOS Compatibility Shell
  97.   ----------------------------------------
  98.  
  99.   As far as known EVAfont and it's drivers work OK in the OS/2 DOS
  100.   Compatibility Shell. The only thing to mention: when switching
  101.   from OS/2 session back to DOS Shell while EVAfont running in it
  102.   screen looks a bit strange. Use /F switch when starting EVAfont to
  103.   avoid this problem.
