  1. To install this version of dvips:
  2.  
  3.     Update makefile, in particular, the paths.
  4.     Check file name definitions in MakeTeXPK.
  5.         (If you don't have MF installed, don't
  6.         install MakeTeXPK either.)
  7.     Check the configuration parameters in config.ps.
  8.         (Send the mem.ps file below to figure
  9.         the memory in your PostScript printer for
  10.         the `m' line in config.ps.)
  11.     Run "make".
  12.     Run "make install" if all went well.
  13.  
  14. If the font caching is a security hole, then make the `cache'
  15. directory be something like /tmp/pks, and cron a job to move the
  16. good PK files into the real directory.  Or simply disable this
  17. feature by not installing MakeTeXPK.
  18.  
  19. Don't forget to install the new VF files or TFM files.  Note
  20. that the TFM files distributed with earlier (pre-5.0) versions
  21. of dvips are *different*.  And the VF/TFM files changed again
  22. with 5.33.
  23.  
  24. If the file doesn't print (especially if it says `bop undefined'),
  25. try using the -N option to turn off the %% comments; if this
  26. works, complain to your system administrator that your PostScript
  27. spooling software is broken.

  29. Here's a short file to figure the memory available in your
  30. printer:
