  1.                     Shareware DeskJet Soft Font Package

  3.  This Shareware package contains everything you need to get started with
  4.  soft fonts on a DeskJet EXCEPT the RAM cartridge. The package contains a 
  5.  number of soft fonts for the DeskJet printer, along with a soft font down-
  6.  loader, a font display program, a utility that examines public domain soft 
  7.  fonts, and printer drivers for: WordPerfect 5.1 & 5.0, MS Word 5.X, MS 
  8.  Works, PC Write, & Windows info. It also contains a tutorial that explains
  9.  the basics of using soft fonts. If you use this package beyond the 20 day
  10.  trial period you are expected to register (pay for) it. Registration is
  11.  $25. The install program will even print a registration form for you.

  13.  WARNING, YOU CAN NOT USE SOFT FONTS WITH A DESKJET UNLESS YOU HAVE AT LEAST
  14.  ONE 128K RAM CARTRIDGE.  RAM CARTRIDGES DO NOT COME WITH THE DESKJET.  YOU
  15.  MUST BUY THEM AS AN EXTRA COST OPTION! DESKJET PLUS & 500 OWNERS SHOULD 
  16.  PURCHASE A 256K RAM CARTRIDGE, WHILE DESKJET OWNERS SHOULD GET A 128K RAM 
  17.  CARTRIDGE.

  19.  We think this package of soft fonts, utilities and printer drivers is a 
  20.  very reasonably priced set. No support for these fonts, driver, or util-
  21.  ities is offered to non-registered users. To register fill out the 
  22.  enclosed form (REGISTER.DOC) and send it along a payment of $25 to:

  24.  checks (payable in US funds and drawn on a US bank), VISA, MC, or cash. 
  25.  When you register we will send you a disk of additional DeskJet soft fonts,
  26.  a current catalog of our DeskJet soft fonts and products, and offer you full
  27.  telephone support.

  29.  This package contains an installation program (INSTALL) that will copy and 
  30.  unpack all self-extracting libraries found on this disk. Be sure to read 
  31.  any matching documentation once you have installed the fonts and printer 
  32.  drivers. To run INSTALL just type the disk drive the disk is in followed by
  33.  the word INSTALL.

  38.  Believe it or not, this disk contains 18 soft fonts for the HP DeskJet,
  39.  plus printer drivers and instructions for a number of application
  40.  programs. It also contains three soft font utility programs: DOWNLOAD for 
  41.  sending soft fonts to your printer, FONTINFO for examining soft fonts, and 
  42.  DISPFONT for printing sample sheets of soft fonts. Most of these files 
  43.  are stored in a compressed format to save room- the soft fonts alone take 
  44.  up 240K when unpacked!

  106.  USING SOFT FONTS

  108.  Before your application program can use soft fonts, it needs information
  109.  about those fonts! Specifically, no application program can use a font 
  110.  unless it knows how to select the font and (for proportionally spaced 
  111.  fonts) the width of each character in the font. THIS IS WHAT THE ENCLOSED 
  112.  PRINTER DRIVERS ARE FOR! If you have an application program that is not 
  113.  covered by a driver in this set, give us a call. We can make drivers for 
  114.  WordStar 5.0 - 6.0, WordStar 2000, Q&A, plus a few other word processors.

  116.  All soft fonts have been specially altered to work with Windows 3.0. Thus 
  117.  you can now use these fonts with PageMaker! Just install the fonts into 
  118.  the Windows environment with the tools supplied with Windows 3.0.
