- The WINWARE concept
- -------------------
-
- While most software available from BBSes asks that you send money
- if you use it, you are only requested to send me money if you
- actually win something in the lottery. After all, at that point
- you should be able to afford it. :)
-
- Of course if you wish to send money in any case, I certainly
- won't mind.
-
- Please feel free to distrubute this software to other BBSes and
- anyone else who may find it interesting. If some public
- domain/shareware software service wants to add it to their list of
- wares, no problem as long as they receive my written permission
- first.
-
- Now for the legal stuff. LOTTO COMBO is not public domain. The
- software is copyright and the author, Peter W. Karwowski, retains
- all control over distribution etc. LOTTO COMBO is made available
- to you as is for your personal use. No warrantees or guarantees
- are either expressed or implied. The author, Peter W. Karwowski,
- will not be liable to you for any damages including lost profits
- or any other incidental or consequential damages arising out of
- the use or inability to use LOTTO COMBO.
-
- Suggestions, criticisms, and of course, financial contributions are
- always welcome. You may send them to:

- WHAT IS LOTTO COMBO?
- --------------------
-
- How many times have you purchased several lottery tickets for a
- given draw only to find that you may have correctly chosen only
- one or two numbers on each of your tickets? Lotto combo is a
- program that takes 10, 12 or 14 of your favourite numbers and
- combines them in such a way as to increase your chances of
- winning a prize.
-
- LOTTO COMBO will work with any lottery where the ticket is made
- up of 6 numbers and a ticket may win with as few as three
- matching numbers.
-
- LOTTO COMBO also allows you to maintain a database of winning
- numbers and generates lists of most picked and least picked
- numbers. The numbers are maintained in a file called DRAWS.TXT.
-
-
- THE DRAWS.TXT FILE
- ------------------
-
- The DRAWS.TXT file contains the winning numbers for you favourite
- lottery. Included with LOTTO COMBO are a complete set of winning
- numbers for the Canadian 6/49 lottery. Because DRAWS.TXT is a
- straight ASCII file, you can use your favourite text editor to
- edit or add draws for you lottery.
-
- If you are playing the Canadian 6/49 lottery and the DRAWS.TXT is
- out of date and your don't want to be bothered updating it
- yourself, you may obtain the most recent list of numbers by
- sending $10 to the author at the above address. I really don't
- mind chanrging for this because I'm providing this strictly as a
- convenience.
-
- As mentioned before, the DRAWS.TXT file is an ASCII file. Each
- draw is contained on it's own line. For example, the first line
- of the DRAWS.TXT file included in the original archive is:
-
- JUN/12/82 03 11 12 14 41 43 13
- |_______| |_______________| |
- DATE WINNING NUMBER BONUS NUMBER
-
- The file may contain as few or as many draws as you want. The
- order is unimportant. The format and spacing within the line IS
- important. The date must be in the form of a three-character
- month abbreviation followed by two digits for the date and the
- year. Only spaces or forward slashes may be used to separate
- items.
-
- Incidentally, Lotto Combo will currently only properly handle
- games where the highest number is 49. Support for lotteries with
- more than 49 number (ie. 54 and 59) will be included if there is
- a demand.

-
- STARTING LOTTO COMBO
- --------------------
-
- After unzipping the archive to a subdirectory, simply enter
- LOTTO. The main title screen will appear and the draws from the
- DRAWS.TXT file will be loaded. The DRAWS.TXT file is needed even
- if you don't want to use information from the lottery to help
- pick your numbers.
-
- Once the preliminaries are out of the way, the main menu is
- displayed.
-
-
- F1 -- Most Picked numbers WITH bonus
- ------------------------------------
-
- This option uses the data in the DRAWS.TXT file and presents a
- list of each of the 49 number along with the number of times each
- number was chosen. This list is presented both sorted and
- unsorted. The bonus number is included in this option.
-
-
- F2 -- Most picked numbers WITHOUT bunus
- ---------------------------------------
-
- This is identical to the F1 option except that the bunus numbers
- are not included in the display.
-
-
- F3 -- Sort ON/OFF
- -----------------
-
- This option will switch whether or not the numbers displayed in
- the F5, F6, F7 and F8 options are sorted.
-
-
- F4 -- Program Information
- -------------------------
-
- This option displays the program information screen that you see
- when the program is first loaded.

- F5 -- 10 numbers -- 20 combinations
- F6 -- 12 numbers -- 20 combinations
- F7 -- 12 numbers -- 42 combinations
- F8 -- 14 numbers -- 40 combinations
- -----------------------------------
-
- This will display the specified number of combinations of numbers
- based on 10, 12 or 14 numbers chosen. If you choose the F1 or F2
- options before any of these options, the most picked numbers will
- be used when calculating the combinations. The numbers used are
- always displayed at the top of the screen.
-
-
- Entering your own numbers for combining
- ---------------------------------------
-
- You will first have the opportunity to change any of the numbers
- that make up the combinations. Pressing <ENTER> or <ESC> keeps
- the current value and continues to the next number until you have
- entered or skipped over the specified number of numbers. As the
- numbers are entered (or skipped) the selected combinations are
- displayed on the screen.
-
-
- Entering your own winning numbers
- ---------------------------------
-
- After entering the numbers you wish to combine, you will be given
- the opportunity to enter winning numbers for a particular draw.
- As you enter these numbers, the combinations are checked. Any
- ticket that contains three or more of the numbers you have
- entered will be displayed in reverse video. The numbers of
- numbers matched will be shown highlighted beside the reverse
- video ticket.

- Getting Printouts
- -----------------
-
- Since all the information you need always fits on the screen,
- just use the PRTSC key to dump a copy of the screen to the
- printer.

-
- Final Thoughts
- --------------
-
- That's basically all there is to LOTTO COMBO. If you experiment
- with possible winning numbers and how they fit into the tickets
- generated by the combinations, you will see the power of
- combining numbers to generate the tickets you play.
-
- Do keep in mind, however, that it still comes down to you picking
- numbers, that when combined, will produce winning tickets. It is
- still quite possible to blow $20, $40 or $42 without a single
- winning ticket. However, when you do win you will tend to win
- much more than if you just bought a couple of tickets. The odds
- are still against you, but at least you have a fighting chance.
-
- I wrote this program mainly for myself thus explaining the rather
- sparse user user interface and lack of "bells and whistles". I'm
- always looking for ideas to incorporate into LOTTO COMBO.
- Exactly what I do will depend on the response I get. Adding
- color is a definite possibility but I don't have a color monitor
- at the moment .
