1. 90,0,270,180,270,0,270,90,180,90,0,90,0.
2. 0,45,0,270,90,0,180,90,180,90,0.
3. 180,270,180,270,180,225,180,270,0,40,90,180,90,0,90,0,270,180.
4. 90,180,270,180,90,270,90,0,90,0,270,180,270,0,270.
5,6,7. Overall, you travel in one of the 4 major directions. because
most blocks are square or rectangular, determining your direction of
travel is much simpler (0,90,180,270). It is also more restricted in
that you can't often go "from here to there" in a straight line.
8,9,10. The purpose of this exercise is to demonstrate that no matter
how large or complicated a city you are traveling in, you are
essentially dealing with a square and 4 directions. Realizing this
can help in various circumstances. For instance, suppose you are
traveling in a straight line, and the road carries you off about 45
to the left, and then curves another 45 to the left. You then come to
an highway that intersects your present path at a 45-135 angle. You
turn right, at 45 from your last course. You then come to a 4-way
intersection. Is your best bet to turn right, turn left, or go
straight ahead to return to your original course? If you kept your
angles correct, you will know that you should go straight ahead and
turn 45 left when able.
