  3. For instance, suppose you see a "Thirteen-lined ground squirrel".
  4. Does it really have 13 lines?  Did you know that it's heart beat may
  5. slow to 5 per minute during hibernation? That it will eat mice and
  6. grasshoppers as well as grain? The point is that there is almost no
  7. limit to what an inquring mind can discover.  If one area doesn't
  8. excite or interest you find another. The rewards are very great, as
  9. many outdoors-men/women know.                                       
  10.   One method that will help you in nature observation or pathfinding
  11. is to develope what some people call "splatter" or "wide angle"
  12. vision.  This is done by relaxing your eyes and allowing your vision
  13. to 'spread out". Instead of focusing on one object, allow your eyes
  14. to take in the whole horizon.  Then, if you spot an interesting
  15. object, concentrate on that. By shifting between "wide-angle" and
  16. "concentrated" vision, effectiveness is greatly increased. Practice
